Ernie J. Elfenbein attended Smith School and George White school and was a
1966 graduate of Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, NJ. He continued his
education studying pre-law in college.
Elfenbein had reached the highest level of Boy Scouts as an Eagle Scout and
had attained Brotherhood membership in the Order of the Arrow.
Elfenbein enlisted in the US Army in February 1967, and attained the rank of
Corporal (CPL). He served in Vietnam with C Company, 2nd Batalion, 502nd
Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of the Tiger Force,
an elite corps
Elfenbein was killed in action on October 6, 1967, after being wounded near
Chou Lai, South Vietnam. CPL Elfenbein was awarded the Combat
Infantryman's Badge, Purple Heart, National Defense, Vietnam Service and
Vietnam Campaign Medals He was 19 years old.
