September23,2014 DearColleagues: Wewritetobringyouanupdateoncurriculumrenewaloverthepasttwomonths.Wehave continuedtofocuseffortsonidentifyingandworkingonwhatismostcriticalandessentialfora successfulstarttothenewcurriculum.Sinceourlastupdate,thishasincludedworkingtoobtain thenecessaryapprovalsfromtheUniversityofWashingtonforthenewcurriculumstructure, buildingtheFoundationPhasecontent,andestablishingworkgroupstobeginplanning foundationalclinicalexperiencesandothercurricularcomponents.Asummaryofcontinuingand newworkisprovidedbelow. Ongoingactivitiesrelatedtocurriculumrenewal: Curriculum Committee selection:WiththehelpofWylieBurkeandtheCurriculum RenewalGovernanceCommittee,anapproachtoselectingthefoundingCurriculum Committeehasbeendevelopedandisbeingimplemented.Wewillconveneanew5‐6 personnominatingcommitteethatwilldevelopaslateofcandidatesconsistingof clinicians,scientists,andregionalfaculty.Thisnewnominatingcommitteewillbe selectedfromourcurrentSchoolofMedicineOversightCommittee.Wewillinvite allUWSOMfacultywithregularorclinicalfacultystatus(assistantprofessororabove) throughouttheregionwhoareinterestedinservingontheCurriculumCommitteeto submittheirnamestotheirdepartmentchairorregionaldean.Thenominating committeewillreviewallnamesandprepareaslateofcandidatestobevotedonbythe entirefacultyregion‐wideinaccordancewiththecategoriesdevelopedbythe GovernanceCommittee.ThegoalistohavetheCurriculumCommitteeinplacebylate October.
