President’s Address 2014
Dear members,
2013 turned out to be a very busy year for PAS.

The PAS published a guideline titled “Evidence-Based Guidelines on the
Use of Opioids in Chronic Non-cancer Pain – A Consensus Statement by
the Pain Association of Singapore Task Force” in the March 2013 issue
of the Annals, Academy of Medicine Singapore. I want to thank all
members of the task force for putting in many months of hard work.
The 5th Association of South-East Asian Pain Societies (ASEAPS)
Conference 2013 was successfully held at MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO
from 2nd to 5th May 2013. We saw a record-breaking attendance of 700
participants and 202 poster presentations. The pre-congress IASP Pain
Camp held between 28th April and 2nd May 2013 was well received, as
was the interventional pain cadaver workshop organized at the
Singapore General Hospital lab on 1st May 2013.

In line with IASP’s theme of Global Year Against Orofacial Pain for
2013/14, PAS will be collaborating with the Singapore Dental
Association and The College of General Dental Practitioners to organize
a combined scientific meeting on 16th August 2014. Orofacial pain is
poorly understood but not uncommon. The objective of this conference
is to raise awareness and educate physicians on identification and
management of various orofacial pain conditions.
