PROFILE
Producer/director with 14 years experience, working within news and current affairs broadcasting
Experienced programme-maker with strong editorial judgment and a proven track record of leading factual content from
original concept and development, through to script-writing and edit producing.
Accustomed to managing large production teams, presenters and working with celebrities. Excellent people skills enable
me to tactfully deal with contributors discussing sensitive or personal topics.
Extensive experience producing live broadcasts, both studio based and on location.
Accustomed to working with tight deadlines and under high pressure, my creativity and high production values set me apart from the typical producer.
EXPERIENCE
PRODUCER/DIRECTOR - TONIGHT, ITV. MARCH 2014 - PRESENT
PD for ITV's award-winning current affairs series. The role also requires script-writing and edit producing.
Credits include:
•
‘How Bad Is Your Driving?’ – We may consider ourselves safe behind the wheel, but are we really as good as we
think? This show highlighted the risks being taken on British roads, and work being done to improve standards.
•
‘The Truth Behind The Bargain Dog Trade’ – An investigative film revealing the shocking reality of life on Britain’s
puppy farms. It also exposed the growing trade in illegally imported dogs, brought into the UK under-age and without
vaccinations.
•
‘Is Britain Happy?’ – Tonight takes a look at the science of happiness, and asks whether having a happier population
would transform us into a more successful nation.
PRODUCER /DIRECTOR - CONSERVATIVE PARTY POLITICAL BROADCAST. MARCH 2014
Responsible for the recent Party Political Broadcast which aired on BBC and ITV. In additional to filming with ‘real’ small
business owners, this fast turnaround, high profile film required directing the Prime Minister and Chancellor.
PRODUCER- TONIGHT, ITV. OCTOBER 2013 - FEBRUARY 2014
This role gave me the opportunity to adapt my existing skills to longer-form factual programming.
Credits include:
•
'How To Cut Your Energy Bills' - As the 'Big 6' energy companies announced their latest price hikes, this consumer led
show told viewers how they can cut their costs and was one of Tonight's highest rated shows in 2013
•
'The Greatest Gift' - This RTS nominated film tells the story of two families brought together by organ donation. In a
British television first, it follows a student whose life was saved by a heart transplant, as he meets the family of his
young donor.
SENIOR FEATURES PRODUCER/DIRECTOR - DAYBREAK, ITV. MARCH 2012 - SEPTEMBER 2013
I was approached to join the show to improve its production values. This role involved leading a team though all areas of
production – from idea and content development to directing, script-writing and edit producing. Daybreak’s emphasis on
live broadcasts required regularly directing highly choreographed multi-camera OBs from across the UK.
Key projects include:
•
Producer/director of hard-hitting investigations on issues such as England’s failing out-of-hours GP system, abuse
and neglect in Britain’s care homes and the dangerous cosmetic procedures being offered on British high streets .
•
Creating and producing ‘Dr Hilary’s Health Heroes’ – a week-long award series honouring healthcare workers. Daily
live broadcasts involved surprising winners with huge crowds of family and friends in their place of work.
•
Producing and directing numerous celebrities on pre-recorded shoots and live OBs.
•
Edit producing series on a wide variety of topics, ranging in scope from the serious investigations to the more lighthearted celebrity focused features.
SENIOR PRODUCER/DIRECTOR - SKY NEWS, 5 NEWS. 2008 - FEBRUARY 2012
Lead producer/director for 5 News, working specifically on high profile stories, original content and multi-part series. This
role requires a constant flow of creative ideas - not only for series and feature topics, but also imaginative treatments to
illustrate picture challenged stories.
Key projects led include:
•
Producer/Director of regular in-depth series, investigating a wide range of hard-hitting topics including date-rape,
youth unemployment, urban gangs and the health dangers posed by chemicals in everyday products such as food
and cosmetics
•
Producer on fast turnaround hour long documentary specials such as ‘Flooded Britain’, ‘The Costa Concordia’, ‘Riots’
and ‘Dave and Nick: Where Did It All Go Right?’
•
The State of America - a five part series on the United States elections. This week of reports from across the USA
looked at the key political issues - from the economy and foreign policy, to race and the Tea Party.
•
A week of coverage from Texas and Florida to mark the final launch of NASA’s shuttle programme.
•
World Cup coverage from South Africa. A project with huge logistical complications to overcome - our team provided
daily content not only on the tournament itself, but also human interest and feature reports from around the country.
•
‘Celebrity Reports’ on 5 News, and it’s sister show, OKTV. Working with celebrities as wide-ranging as Ricky Hatton
and Piers Morgan to the stars of TOWIE. This required working alongside the celebrity to write a script discussing the
issues they care about, in a style to suit them.
