Spain and Portugal have undergone drastic political and economic changes since the outbreak of the financial and economic turmoils in 2008. Now the most difficult times seem to be overcome and new business opportunities arise. Comprising more than 57 million potential consumers and an area of 582.000 km 2 , the Iberian Peninsula is an important market by global standards, actually it ranks amongst the top 10 consumer goods markets worldwide. Due to the increasing economic cooperation with emerging powers in Latin America and Africa, Spain and Portugal also position themselves as strong hubs to overseas markets. Austrian direct investments in Spain have increased by 58 percent throughout the last year, amounting to approximately 65 million EUR in 2013. At the end of 2013, Austrian direct investments in Spain and Portugal equaled 916 million EUR. The annual export volume of Austrian businesses to the Iberian Peninsula grows again and will reach more than 2 billion EUR in 2014. These are positive signals which we want to reinforce with Austria Connect 2014. A perfect mix between formal and informal networking possibilities as well as a challenging conference program should inspire all participants towards new business ideas and lead to new contacts and commercial opportunities.
