WELCOME!
I feel like I just blinked and fall is upon us. It has been a very busy few months for the
Chamber. Thank you to everyone who came out to our golf tournament. It was a HUGE
success and I was very excited to see lots of new and old faces. Our golf tournament wouldn’t
happen if it wasn’t for our golf committee, all of the volunteers that helped out that day and
our members and non members who participated. A big shout out goes out to everyone
involved.

2 BUSINESS
After Five
The Paris Chamber has had a busy summer with
several members hosting business after five events.
Grand Experiences hosted a special event at the
end of June where Chamber members had the opportunity to
travel down the Grand River in a traditional 12 passenger voyager
canoe. Although the weather threatened, it turned out to be a great
evening! Thank you to those who attended and to Jamie and his
staff for hosting this informative, special event.
The August Business After Five host was My Koi Water
Gardens. The setting was absolutely lovely for this event. Chamber
members were able to wander throughout the beautiful gardens to
see the various fish and plants. They were also treated to delicious
refreshments and a visit from some very special critters from Twin
Valley Petting Zoo! Terry Churchill was very welcoming and we
appreciate his hospitality!
Business to Business After Five is a free to attend monthly networking event for
Chamber members. We encourage you to come out to our next Business to
Business After Five event and take advantage of this valuable membership benefit.
Reminders will be sent out to members via email or you can check our website at
www.pariscoc.ca for event details.
9th Annual Paris Chamber Golf Tournament
Heavy rainfall
did not dampen the spirits of those who
attended the September Business After
Five event hosted by R & B Roofing,
Mountview Landscaping Services and
The Cobblestone Pub. A large group
was on hand for great networking,
delicious food and an opportunity
to view the beautifully landscaped
property. Thank you to Rick, John,
Ryan and Matt for the great evening!
The 9th annual Paris Chamber golf
tournament was held on Thursday, July
31st at the Paris Grand Golf and Country
Club. It was a perfect day of sunshine and
warm temperatures. A record total of 100
golfers participated this year and several
more joined the group afterwards for a
delicious dinner, prizes and a great evening
of networking.
Congratulations Winners!
Meet your fellow Chamber members and help grow your business in a casual,
social atmosphere. Non members are welcome to come out and see what we’re all
about! If you have any questions about these events, please contact Sue Swinton

Preparing for Tax Time
You can save yourself a fair amount of
money at tax time when it comes to
accounting fees with these simple ideas:
Go Techie
If you are using handwritten notes, excel
spreadsheets or handwritten ledgers,
you should transition to an accounting
software like QuickBooks. It is user
friendly, simple and will provide reports,
Trial Balances and a General Ledger that
your accountant will easily be able to work
with much faster!
Be Organized
Put your receipts and invoices in file
folders or use an accordion folder to
organize them by month. This will make
searching for a ‘missing’ receipt much
easier for your accountant and you won’t
be paying them to find it for you.
Brantford’s Newest Hotel
Featuring 84 Guest Rooms & Suites including
Kitchenette & Jacazzi suites
Use a Cheat Sheet
What items did your accountant need last
year and had to remind you to get for
them? Car insurance policies? Vehicle
mileage report? Start a list of things that
your accountant has had to remind you of
to give them every year and be proactive.
Remember, you are paying for their time
to call you, email you and hound you for
those missing items.
Get a Bookkeeper
Most small businesses balk at getting a
bookkeeper and end up getting one when
they are years behind in filing or they are
drowning in back remittances and penalty
fees from Canada Revenue. Don’t wait…
even if you pay a bookkeeper for 2 hours a
month to come in and keep you organized
and up to date, it is well worth it in the
end! ‘A stitch in time saves nine’, my
great-grandmother used to say.

PARIS LIONS “COMMUNITY
MIRACLES” PROJECT
Our community Lions Park began in
1931. Over the last 83 years the park
has seen a number of rejuvenations
or upgrades. In 2009 the Paris Lions’
“Community Miracles” project started
a massive revitalization of the park to
keep it fresh, vibrant and meaningful to
the people in our community.
Our most recent activity is the
removal of the obsolete 47 year
old Walter Williams band shell and
replacing it with a slightly smaller wheel
chair accessible amphitheater with
detached and independent washroom
facilities. Our goal is to have it up
and running by June 2015. Other
completed updates to the park include
new playground equipment, new pool
and splash pad, wheelchair accessible
foot bridge, static exercise equipment
and paved walkways. Future plans
include new baseball diamonds, wheel
chair accessible playground equipment,
paved parking and expanded walkways
and exercise equipment. Our goal is
to enhance the park and its value as a
“Destination Park” in our community.
If you have any questions or wish to
offer your support to the Community
Miracles Project, please contact Ken
Linington, [email protected],
519 442-2099 with your thoughts and
directions.
