Dr Phoebe Lin is an applied linguist renowned for her
pioneering research on the phonology of multiword units in
naturally occurring spoken discourse. Her innovative and
interdisciplinary research has not only advanced interest in the
use of corpus linguistics methodologies for studying speech
prosody, but also sheds new light on English language teaching
and speech technologies. Dr Lin is committed to the
development of the fields of applied linguistics, English
language teaching and learning technologies. She is frequently
invited to review submissions for top SSCI-indexed journals
on these subjects. She also shares her research work and ideas
at international conferences.
As an English language teaching expert and a lecturer of
English linguistics, Dr Lin is very passionate about engaging
the public in linguistics. Before joining The Hong Kong
Polytechnic University as a Research Assistant Professor in
June 2014, Dr Lin taught at the University of Nottingham, UK,
and the City University of Hong Kong. During her time at the
City University of Hong Kong, Dr Lin was nominated for the
Teaching Excellence Award.
Dr Lin’s recent research addresses the linguistic, pedagogical
and technological issues surrounding the wider use of internet
television for mobile foreign language learning. She is also a
member of the British Association for Applied Linguistics and
the Formulaic Language Research Network.
