What I have learned and been involved with them is something that I wish was around when we were a young family in the Military. Here is a little about them: Blue Star Families is a nonprofit organization that was established in 2008 to "support, empower, and connect" our military community to itself and to the civilian community as a whole. Blue Star Families has a number of programs that support our members: Books on Bases (free books to military kids), Blue Star Networks (employment assistance for military spouses, service members and veterans), and Caregivers Empowering Caregivers (a resource workshop for Caregivers and their families). Membership into Blue Star Families is completely FREE, but will grant you access to special events held locally throughout the year. You can sign up to become a member of Blue Star Families by going to www.BlueStarFam.org or by contacting your local Blue Star Family representative, Liz SnellVolunteer Recognition Manager at [email protected]. Thank you for choosing to live at De Luz. Bronwynn Blackmon Community Director Hunt Update Valentine’s Day is also National Organ Donor Day. Is your family aware of your wishes concerning donation? Corneas are the most commonly transplanted organ. Kidneys are the most commonly transplanted organ from a live donor. 120,000 people are currently awaiting an organ. Consider discussing your wishes with your family. Even if you’ve signed a donor card, your family will need to consent. Having that awkward talk now will help your family fulfill your wishes during a difficult time. Have a heart! Discuss organ donation with your family Donate blood Raise awareness PMO……………………..(760)725-9883 Animal Control…………(760)725-8120 Maintenance An Eye For An Eye Eye injuries occur every day. Some can be as minor as getting dust particles or a bug in your eye or as devastating as complete loss of vision. By taking some precautions and using eye protection, you can reduce your chances of having an eye injury. Forty percent of eye injuries happen at home. Injuries can occur during Do It Yourself projects, cooking, chemical splashes, sporting events or while doing yard work. When choosing eye protection, consider the right equipment for the job you’re doing. If you should sustain an eye injury, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Trying to determine severity of the injury or attempting remove anything embedded in your eye yourself could cause further damage. Your eyesight is precious and not to be taken for granted. Wearing proper eye protection will greatly reduce your chances of having an eye injury and is a simple way to keep your eyes safe.
