Makita would like to thank the Sphere 1 membership for their support, and we look forward
to continued growth and partnership in 2015. As we move forward, an important part of our
growth strategy is to continue listening and working with professional users on jobsites. This
constant interaction is what drives Makita to engineer and build the most innovative products
in the world. If we collected everything we’ve learned from the pros and forged it into a single
core element, it would be that the construction world is changing. Big time.
The driving force behind this change is increasing pressure to raise productivity, with reduction in labor being the end game. In turn, pros are demanding tools that help them solve problems and make them more efficient, which deliver more power, speed and run time with faster
battery charge time. Additionally, ergonomics means more today than ever, with tools that are
more compact with less weight and have lower vibration. Makita is focused on providing solutions never before seen in the industry, like 18V LXT® Cordless tools with the power, speed
and run time for the FREEDOM to UNPLUG the cord. It’s all about “NO LIMITS”.
World’s Largest 18V Lithium-Ion Line-Up
Makita created the 18V Lithium-ion cordless tool category. In 2015 Makita will celebrate
our 100-Year Anniversary and will expand the full range of 18V LXT® cordless to more
than 100 tools, all powered by the industry’s fastest-charging 18V batteries. The upcoming
5.0Ah battery will reach a full charge in only 45 minutes, and the 4.0Ah battery takes only 40
minutes. Others out there require 1 hour 30 minutes for a full charge. With the addition of Star
Protection Computer Controls™, Makita batteries are protected from overload, over-discharge
and overheating for longer tool and battery life.
Leading in Brushless and X2 Technology
Makita created brushless motor fastening tools in
2004 for the defense and aerospace industries and
the first brushless impact driver for contractors in
2009. The new 18V LXT® Brushless Drill, model
XPH07T, delivers 1,090 in.lbs. of torque, by far the
most in the industry, as well as category-leading
speed and run time.
With the most 18V Lithium-Ion batteries on
jobsites, Makita created new technology that delivers power, speed and more work without leaving
the 18V platform. 18V X2 LXT® (36V) tools are
powered by two 18V LXT® batteries. No more taking the time to drag out cords for a 7-1/4” Circular

The U.S. Commerce Department’s International
Trade Administration (ITA) in a final decision
has levied anti-dumping margins of 16.74 to
119.87% on imports of steel threaded rod from
India. In addition, Commerce determined that Indian imports have
received countervailable subsidies of 8.61 to 39.46% according to
the July 7th decision. In the anti-dumping investigation, mandatory
respondents Mangal Steel Enterprises Limited and Babu Exports received final dumping margins of 16.74% and 119.87%, respectively.
Babu Export’s margin is based on adverse facts available because it
failed to respond to Commerce’s questionnaire. All other producers
in India received the 16.75% rate according to Commerce. In the
countervailing duty investigation, mandatory respondents Mangal
Steel Enterprises Limited and Babu Exports received final subsidy
rates of 8.61% and 39.46% respectively. All other producers/exporters received the 8.61% rate. Steel threaded rod imports from India
were valued at $19 million in 2013.

The 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Napa,
CA in August caused
more than 200 injuries
and structural damage to many homes and businesses throughout the
area. The quake was the largest to hit the San Francisco Bay Area
since the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, prompting the governor to declare a state of emergency.
As part of the Safety Assessment Program run by the California
Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), Simpson Strong-Tie
Engineering Manager Ryan Vuletic was chosen to be part of the
team that tagged buildings based on their level of damage. Ryan was
deployed to Napa for five days and was deputized to red-, yellow- or
green-tag buildings on behalf of the city.
A team of Simpson Strong-Tie engineers visited the area right after
the earthquake to survey structural damage, as well as provide
support in the way of education and resources about building and
retrofitting a structure to help prevent seismic damage. One business
owner told us that retrofitting her building with Simpson Strong-Tie
products prior to the earthquake helped ensure no structural damage.

Survives Napa Earthquake” on www.strongtie.com/napaquake

SENCO has received an evaluation report (ESR #3558) from ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) certifying that their fasteners meet the 2009
and 2012 International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC) codes. The scope of the review included evaluation of
SENCO Brands’ self-piercing and self-drilling tapping screws. The evaluation information can
now be used by specifiers who wish to use SENCO fasteners in engineering and architectural
drawings for commercial and large residential structures.
The fasteners which gained approval are commonly used for connections involving cold
formed steel framing. Common applications include joining drywall/gypsum sheathing to steel,
steel to steel framing, steel sheathing to steel framing, and certain wood to steel framing.

beautiful and serine background was the perfect
setting for our meeting
and discussion. Attending

to the Makita factory and training center in Buford Georgia.
The all-day session included hands on demonstrations of Makita’s latest “concrete”
tool technology including the 4 stroke 14″ gas saw. Mixed in with the training was
some open and honest discussion regarding how Makita can work with members to
better sell against Hilti and other non-Sphere 1 vendors. Tuesday evening Makita
hosted a final evening dinner in “old”
downtown Buford, GA. Participants
departed for the Atlanta airport on
Wednesday morning. The meeting was
a great success with commitments from

Hammers with Less Vibration, More Performance
While contractors want rotary hammers that drill faster with less noise and require less labor,
they also want a solution that beats up the concrete -- not them. For Makita, “No Limits” means
rotary and breaker hammers that deliver hard-hitting performance with less vibration. Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT®) is more than just springs
and padded handle. It’s an internal counterbalance
system engineered into the tool that more effectively reduces vibration while directing more impact
energy to the work surface. There is an AVT®
hammer in every class, with 9 models consisting of
1” to 2” rotary hammers and breakers up to 70 lbs.
And don’t forget about the World’s First 4-Stroke
Power Cutter. For drilling, cutting, surfacing and
breaking – Makita has it covered.
“No Limits” in 2015
The construction world is changing and Makita’s
Contractors are demanding less vibration,
answer
is “NO LIMITS”, with innovation that helps
and the Makita 1-9/16” Rotary Hammer
with enhanced Anti-Vibration Technology
professionals be more productive. Ask your Makita
(AVT®) has the lowest vibration in its class Representative about new solutions on the way in
at only 5m/s², yet delivers 20% more impact
corded and cordless power tools, pneumatics, outenergy than the previous model.
