Following are some links to regional, national, or school specific
scholarships. As with any scholarships, if you have questions or need
assistance, please come by the HHS Counseling Center.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The deadline is October 25, 2013, for The Horatio Alger National and State Scholarships that are
available to high school seniors with a strong commitment to pursue a bachelor‟s degree, have an
adjusted gross family income of less than $55,000.00, show involvement in co-curricular and
community activities and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. They will award five $5000 scholarships to
Kansas students. Students must submit an online application at
https://www.horatioalger.org/scholarships/program_kansas.cfm.
The deadline is November 1, 2013, for the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail Scholarship. It is available to
any senior in an Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League School who will be attending Wichita State
University in the fall. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and a minimum composite 24 on the

The Elks National Foundation is offering “Most Valuable Student Scholarships” totaling $2,296,000
for the 2013-14 through 2016-17 academic years. In 2012, there were several Kansas winners including
a $40,000 scholarship awardee from Overland Park. The “Most Valuable Student Scholarships”
application can be found at www.elks.org. Come by the HHS Counseling Center for a helpful check
list. The application forms must be postmarked no later than December 6, 2013. The mailing address

The KLL Memorial Scholarship Foundation has a $1500 annual scholarship, renewable for up to
four years, available for children who have lost a parent to cancer. Complete information and
application requirements can be accessed through the website: www.kllscholarshipfund.org or see your
counselor for more information. Deadline for application is January 10, 2014.
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program will select 1,000 students on a need-based,
merit scholarship that covers a student‟s undergraduate career. Application deadline is January 15,
2014. You are eligible if you…
Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or
Hispanic American
Are a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States
Have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or have earned a
GED
Will enroll for the first time at a U.S. located, accredited college or university (with the
exception of students concurrently pursuing a high school diploma) in the fall of 2013 as a fulltime, degree-seeking, first-year student. First-time college enrollees can also be GED recipients.
Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service,
extracurricular, or other activities
Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria
Have completed and submitted all three required forms: the student‟s application (Nominee
Personal Information Form), an evaluation of the student‟s academic record (Nominator Form)
and an evaluation of the student‟s community service and leadership activities (Recommender

Kansas Association of Educational Office Professionals is offering a scholarship in the amount of
$300 who intend to pursue a career in the business field, preferably business education. Selection
committee will emphasize scholastic achievement, initiative, and financial need. For more information

The ESA Foundation has 43 scholarships designated for Kansas students. Visit their website at

The Kansas State University chapter of Phi Kappa Theta is offering the Man of Faith Scholarships
for male students planning to attend KSU. There is one $1000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships.
Applicants are not required to pledge Phi Kappa Theta. For more information and an application, visit

Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) is offering four
$250 scholarships to students who have demonstrated quality leadership. Practically all Kansas postsecondary institutions qualify, as well as some in surrounding states. Minimum 3.25 GPA and 22 ACT.

The Kansas Association of Directors of Plant Facilities is offering four $1000 scholarships to
graduating seniors who are the children of custodial workers. They must be planning to attend a postsecondary school in Kansas. Applications can be found at http://kadpf.org/index.html. Deadline is
February 15.
The Better Business Bureau Foundation is accepting applications for the 2014 Scott Mecham Student
of Integrity Awards. They are offering two $2000 scholarships to graduating seniors from the Kansas
Plains. These scholarships are awarded to students who exemplify ethical behavior and personal
integrity and who demonstrate humility, courage, compassion, and respect for their peers, teachers, and
community (not based on need, grade point average, ethnicity, etc.). For more information and to

later than March 7, 2014.
Kansas Grain and Feed Association has several merit based scholarships available with a deadline of
March 7. For more information visit their website at www.ksgrainandfeed.org. Scholarship tab is found

Kansas Agribusiness Retailers Association is offering five scholarships for graduating seniors and/or
current college students who are majoring in agronomy or and agriculture related field. For information
and applications, visit www.ksagretailers.org. Deadline is March 7.
Senator Robert J. Dole Public Service Scholarship Program – Up to forty $1000 scholarships will be
offered to Kansas graduating seniors who are enrolling full-time for fall 2014 at a Kansas Regents‟
College or at Washburn University. Applicant should have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be involved in a
significant amount of volunteer community service projects or public service activities. For additional

The Ellis Foundation is offering a scholarship of $1000 per semester, renewable for eight semesters.
To be eligible, you must be a high school senior with a minimum ACT of 24, a minimum GPA of 3.0,
planning to attend one of their participating colleges (see list on website), and majoring in the fields of
1) Engineering, Computer Science, Accounting/Finance, or Human Resources AND are interested in
working in the energy industry, 2) Culinary Arts/Hospitality, or 3) Dentistry. To apply, visit

(in completing the application, do not use “enter” to tab between fields, as on some browsers “enter”
will submit the application). Scholarships are limited so they encourage students to apply as soon as
possible.
Craft Scholarship Program sponsored by Westar Energy offers General Lineman (2) and Power
Plant Operator Scholarships of $2,000. The scholarships are available to graduating seniors (or recent
graduates) who are Kansas residents and have maintained a 2.5 GPA. To receive a Lineman
Scholarship, the student must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver‟s License. An essay is required.

Kansas Hospital Education and Research Foundation Scholarships - Thirty health care
scholarships are being offered for the 2014-15 academic year. Any Kansan who is currently enrolled or
planning to enroll in a Kansas school accredited by an appropriate state licensing health career board is
eligible to apply. Priority will be given to professions experiencing shortages, individuals seeking new
degrees or certifications, demonstrated leaders, and committed Kansans. For further information and an

than March 31.
Kansas Motor Carriers Association is offering $1000 renewable scholarships to three or four
graduating high school seniors or currently enrolled college students. Preference is given to those
pursuing careers in the transportation industry (includes drivers, mechanics, and pilots, as well as
accounting, communications, and office personnel within the transportation industry), but is not limited
to those majors. For more information and a download of the application, go to

KSDE AEOP Scholarship - Applications are now available for the KSDE Association of Educational
Office Professionals (AEOP) Margaret Van Horn Scholarship. Each year the association awards a
scholarship in the amount of $250 to anyone enrolling a minimum of nine semester hours in an
accredited educational facility within the state of Kansas. The amount of the scholarship is not limited
to tuition only, but will be offered for the purchase of books, payment of fees, supplies, or other
expenses required. Emphasis for selection of the recipient will be based on scholarship application,
initiative, character, and/or other factors supporting his/her candidacy. The completed application

NAIFA of the Heartland is offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating Kansas student who will
pursue ANY post-secondary certification or degree. Student must have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.75.
The one-page application, which should be typed in 12 pt. font, must contain the applicants name,
address, name of parent/guardian, phone number, ACT score, cumulative GPA, and planned postsecondary schooling. It should be followed by an essay of 300 words or less that describe your goals,
vision, and aspirations and how your education will help you to achieve them. See your counselor if you

The Educational Foundation of the Kansas Society of CPA’s would like to announce the availability
of accounting scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to Kansas high school seniors entering a
Kansas college or university for the fall 2014 semester. A total of $11,800 will be awarded to twenty
Kansas seniors, without regard to financial need, who have high ACT scores (ACT scores must be
submitted by March 5, see your counselor), confirmed admission to a Kansas college, plan to major in
accounting, and can demonstrate leadership through involvement in extra-curricular activities. The

The Kansas Masonic Foundation seeks to demonstrate both our personal commitment and the heartfelt
desire of Kansas Masons and donors to help advance education for the common good and well-being of
our society. The purpose of these scholarships is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate
students who are pursuing opportunities for personal and professional growth via higher education.

Student Insights is offering eleven scholarships ranging from $500 - $4000. To apply, simply log on to
www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area.
Scholarships are awarded via a random drawing in May, 2014. Deadline to complete the
application/survey is April 20, 2014.
Kansas State Board of Regents Student financial aid includes grants, scholarships and loans. It can
be available through the federal and state government, private corporations, and local organizations, to
name a few. The Kansas Board of Regents is responsible for the administration of the state-funded

Wichita State University’s College of Education will award over $500,000 in academic scholarships
to its students this year. Incoming, current and non-traditional students receive these
scholarships. Criteria differ for each scholarship. Students' qualifications are matched to the appropriate
scholarships for final selection of awards.

Review K-State Scholarships Please take a few moments to review K-State's scholarship details for
the 2014-2015 academic year. You'll note that KSU continues to improve their commitment to offer
premier four-year academic awards and that their leadership awards are also renewable.
KU Scholarship Link will direct you to the complete cost and scholarship table for the 2014-15 school
year at the University of Kansas. KU now offers an array of four-year renewable academic scholarships.
