Orientation Task List
Please complete the following tasks listed below prior to attending orientation on August 4, 2014.
Details can be found on the GRU website and Guidebook after July 11, 2014.
□Review the GRU Medical Student Handbook
The Medical Student Handbook will contain valuable information that may be helpful during all phases
of your Medical College of Georgia curriculum. Some of this information includes: Student Conduct
Code and Procedures, Student Government Association, Student Organizations, Student Services,
Specific Policies and Procedures, Procedures for Filing Discrimination and Harassment Complaints and
more general information.

□Military Students
Military waivers for in-state tuition are available in the Registrar’s office. Please contact them at 706721-0361 for further details. The Registrar’s office may also be reached via email at:

All Medical and Dental Students are charged a Mandatory Student Disability Insurance Fee each Fall
Semester per year of enrollment. If you are a full-time active-duty member of the armed forces of any
country – you are not eligible for this insurance and therefore will receive a waiver in POUNCE on your
account. Active-duty military include dental and medical students released from in-service for other
assignments such as school.
The office of Military & Veteran Services is located on the Summerville Campus at GRU. Please contact
Michael W. Wilkins, phone # 706-737-1606, [email protected] if you have any questions on the status
of your service and have your military orders available for review. You will need to verify your active
duty status with him as soon as possible. Once you are verified, their office will let us know to waive the
fee in Pounce. If you have already paid this fee, you or your third party will be reimbursed.

You may order textbooks from the website. We have included the list of books required for first
semester. The bookstore is located in the Student Center on Laney Walker in Building DA (room 1016).

FORM: Phase1 Textbooks for 2014-2015
□Purchase a Laptop with the Correct Specifications
Many students purchase a computer for their personal use prior to matriculation. Beginning in 2011, the
Medical College of Georgia requires that you have a laptop computer. The general guidelines and
recommendations are included in the links below.
The Histology component of the phase 1 curriculum will be using digital, web-based histology slides in
addition to regular microscopic slides and microscopes. The software to view these images will be
downloaded whenever the student enters the site for the first time. No advance preparation or
purchases are necessary.

□Complete and Print all Required Forms Due August 4, 2014
All of these forms are required as part of orientation. They are fillable PDFs and you should complete
them, print them, and bring them to the first day of orientation on 8/4/14.

Georgia Regents University is committed to promoting a healthy environment for all Georgia citizens

□Complete Podcast and Attestation Form
Prior to attending your Class of 2018 Orientation, you are required to view the uploaded podcast. Please
note that the podcast is required reading/viewing and you will complete an attestation of completion
form. Your completion of these is mandatory and tracked as a component of your matriculation into
medical school. Please complete, print and sign the attestation form and bring with you to orientation
on August 4, 2014.

□Obtain Parking Permit and Student ID Badge
Students should report to The GRU Public Safety Division, located on the first floor, room 1147 to obtain
a parking permit. Parking permits may be obtained during the dates and times outlined below. You will
need your ID badge to be on campus. Students should report to GRU Public Safety to obtain a parking
permit during the week of July 28-August 1, 2014. Business Hours: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM., Monday - Friday,
except holidays (EST).

Students may obtain their ID badges in the JagStore bookstore located at the corner of 15th Street and
Laney Walker Boulevard on the Health Sciences campus Student Center (DA 1000) first floor. Students
should report to the JagStore in the GRU Health Sciences Campus Student Center to obtain a student ID
badge during the week of July 28-August 1, 2014.

The MCG Class of 2018 Orientation Brunch will be held from 10:30am-12pm on August 4, 2014.

□Get Measured for White Coat
Students may get measured for white coats during orientation. Representatives from the Jagstore will
be located outside of the student classroom in the Hamilton Wing to take measurements. Please note
that students will only be given one white coat, so please be mindful of this when getting measured.
White coats will be presented to students during the White Coat Ceremony on October 11, 2014. The
White Coat Ceremony will be held at the William B. Bell Auditorium on Telfair Street in Augusta, GA at
2:00p.m. Immediately following the ceremony, a light reception will be held at the Old Medical College
of Georgia approximately a block away. Registration is not necessary for the White Coat Ceremony.
Recommended dress for guests attending is business/resort casual. Students will be instructed on
proper dress prior to the ceremony. Please share this special event information with your family and
friends so that they may begin making plans
□Welcome Dinner at Savannah Rapids August 4, 2014
The MCG Class of 2018 Welcome Dinner will be located at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion on August 4,
2014 at 6:30pm.
