Potatest® + Rapid Response Portable Water
Quality Laboratory
Widely used by organisations involved in large scale emergencies or simple
water quality testing projects, the Potatest® + is a lightweight microbiological
test kit offering low-cost, rapid response testing of basic water quality
parameters.
Designed to complement the increased emphasis now being placed upon Water
Safety Plans (WSPs) and their role in assessing and managing risk throughout each
step of the drinking water supply process.
• Robust, portable and versatile – the Potatest + kit can be used in all
environments, with or without mains power supply or other services
• Removable Water Safety Kit (WSK) - contains instruments and visual test
equipment to assess physico-chemical parameters. Often used as a
screening tool to determine whether a full microbiological assessment is
required or to enhance microbiological testing for a full risk-based
assessment
• The Potatest® + is a stock item, available quickly and in quantity when
emergency strikes and supports widespread testing activity by a range of
users

The key features include:
Rapid field microbiological analysis
In emergency response situations, time is often one of the most important factors.
Using Membrane Filtration protocols for the screening of Faecal (Thermotolerant)
and/or Total Coliforms, water sources can be quickly assessed, bringing resolution to
critical water resource scenarios.
International Methodology Compliance
All test protocols conform to World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for fieldbased water quality assessment. Methodologies are designed to produce robust,
health-critical data by any level of user, thereby answering the question of whether
water is safe for human consumption.
Integrated, Sterilisable Work Surface
All indicator bacteria test procedures are performed on the work surface, so that
evaluation for the presence of water-borne pathogens can be made without fear of
contamination.
Sterilisable Microbiological Components
Food grade components suitable for continual re-use are used for contacting materials.
Petri dishes and rack, Membrane Filtration Unit (MFU) and associated components
can be re-sterilised, using standard procedures, without reduction in equipment
performance.
Ergonomic Internal Layout
Designed to hold and group components into logical areas, giving an intuitive
approach requiring minimal training requirements. No more searching for the
components required for testing.
Audible Incubator Voice Instructions
Combined with waterproof pictorial prompt cards, allowing any level of user to easily
follow test methodologies simply and effectively.
Wagtech Incubator App
Critical information such as temperature and incubation time period can be
downloaded for quality control and conformation purposes. In addition, software and
firmware updates can be quickly uploaded in the field.
Waterproof and Tear-proof Instruction Manual
Designed for field application in extreme environments and available in multiple
languages
Durable and Water Resistant Reagent cartons
Manufactured specifically for Wagtech kits, re-usable polypropylene cartons are
provided with the initial kit and available as an optional spare.

Double length Turbidity Tube Specification:
Visual assessment of turbidity using Jackson turbidity tubes. Measurement in the
range 5 to 500 JTU, with the first tube 15 to 500 JTU and second tube (which must be
connected to the first tube) 5 to 10 JTU.
Tubes are inter-locking with a readable scale down the side of each tube. At the base
of the first tube is a black cross with a yellow background. Turbidity readings are
performed by looking down the inside of the tube(s) as the water sample is added. At
the point where the black cross begins to disappear, the water level is recorded and
expressed as turbidity units, JTU.
Drinking water samples should have a turbidity value of less than 5JTU – where both
tubes are filled and the cross does not disappear.

Contour Comparator Specification:
The Contour Comparator provides visual testing for a wide range of parameters for
drinking water testing in a compact and easy-to-use platform. Test methods are carried
out using comparator grade tablet reagents for portability and stability in the field.
The Potatest + kit contains a Contour comparator body with comparator disc for
measurement of Free and Total Chlorine in the range 0 – 5 mg/l Cl2.
Disc graduations are in 0.5mg/l increments from 0.5 mg/l.
