Benefiting government, industry and the public through innovative science and technology Mud Motor and Top Drive Test Stands S outhwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) has been actively involved with the design and fabrication of mud motor and top drive test stands for more than 20 years. These stands are designed to test a broad range of mud motor sizes. As an example, SwRI designed and fabricated a unique dynamometer test stand configured to accept and measure 250 ft-lb to 25,000 ft-lb of torque and 110,000 lbs of thrust at speeds of 0–1,200 rpm. Other functions replicated by the test stand include: BLUE.PSD • Axial positioning • Thrust application • Radial loading • Flow control • Backpressure simulation • Data acquisition and control Mud motor dynamometer D019518 Special adjustment provisions are incorporated into the test stand to allow for three-axis precision positioning of the thrust shaft. Precision electronic instrumentation integrated into the stand provides measurement, display, and control of parameters such as speed, torque, thrust load, pressure, flow, and temperature. Instrumentation The data acquisition hardware, control software, and graphical user interface (GUI) are all customizable. Some of the key functionalities of this system are: • Multi-platform capability (LabVIEW, PLC, client specific) D019517 • High speed data acquisition • Real time and FPGA control • Automated testing routines • Customize automated test profiles and routines without modifying code Test stand control screen Southwest Research Institute® Fuels and Lubricants Research Division technology data sheet We welcome your inquiries.
