TEEMU LEHMUSRUUSU ARTIST STATEMENT [email protected] www.teemulehmusruusu.com +358 (0)44 5887668 Teemu Lehmusruusu (born 1981, Helsinki, Finland) is a contemporary artist whose primary medium is moving image. His works explore the nature of human existence using exhibition space as an investigative workshop - a place where audience can engage with the values and thoughts within the work presented. The works are often polyvalent and have a bare or minimalistic appearance. Recent themes include investigations into different spiritual traditions, human addictions, Romanticism and horticultural environments. Lehmusruusu is at the moment finishing his thesis for the Master of Art degree in Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture Helsinki and preparing his 5th solo show called Observatory. Teemu Lehmusruusu is represented in Supermarket 2014 Art Fair by 00130Gallery Helsinki. The work seen is the second part of a series of three video works called The Declaration of Love. The movement improvisation was created in collaboration with the contemporary dancer and choreographer Jennifer Amelie Vogel (born 1985, Stuttgart, Germany). The performance is shot in a closed sanatorium in Beelitz-Heilstätten, Germany. It is a bodily meditation on sufferings and affects, love as impossible, inaccessible and unfulfilled. And still, as the principles of Romanticism state, even despair itself is a manifestation and act of love as such. TEEMU LEHMUSRUUSU CV Born 1981, Helsinki Finland.
