General The Government of India has entrusted to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highway (MOSRT&H) for the development of highways under National Highways Development Projects (NHDP). The projects contemplate enhancing the traffic capacity and safety on a few of the selected heavily trafficked high density stretches/ corridors of National Highways for efficient transshipment of goods as well as passenger traffic. The Project Road is a Section of National Highway No. 12, starting at Jaipur in the State of Rajasthan and traversing through the States of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Total length of NH-12 is about 915 km with stretches lying in various states as under: · Rajasthan - 416 km · Madhyapradesh - 499 km Important cities and towns’ enroute are Jaipur, Tonk, Deoli, Bundi, Kota, Bhopal and Jabalpur. In the state of Rajasthan, NH-12 passes through the districts of Jaipur, Tonk and Bhilwara. The Project Corridor under consideration falls under NHDP Phase-III B programme of 4/6 laning, to be undertaken on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. The Project consists of Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer of National Highway. The Development of Project consists of Four Laning of Jaipur – Deoli Section of NH-12 from Km 18+700 to Km 165+000 in the State of Rajasthan. 1.2. Project Location The Project Road starts short of Jaipur at Km 18/700 and end at 165/000. The Highway is joined and/or intersected by a number of State Highways, Major District Roads (MDR) and other District Roads (ODR). JaipurSwaimadhaopur railway line crosses the Project road at two places. The length of Highway is 148.970 Km. 1.3. Area Terrains and Geology The Project road mainly lies in plain terrain. There is only one major bridge on Banas River with various minor and major structures across distributaries and drains. The road lies in Seismic Zone II. 1.4. Climates and Environment Mean maximum temperature of region is 35oC but maximum temperature reaches above 45oC. Summers are extremely hot with shining sun on the head whereas winters are comparatively cool. However, the nights in winters are bitterly cold. The months of July, August and September are considered rainy season. Average annual rainfall is 556 mm. Cold season prevails from middle of October to March. Mean minimum temperature is 13.5oC but temperature may go down to 5.0 oC. 1.5. Existing Right of Way The existing right-of-way (ROW) of the Project road varies widely and ranges between 18m in congested built-up areas to 60 m in open. Generally it is 30 m to 60 m. 1.6. Structures Inventory There are existing total of 01 Major Bridge on River Banas, 26 Minor Bridges, 60 Slab / Box culverts, and 64 Hume Pipe Culverts on the project road. General Condition of Bridges The existing minor bridge structure are of RCC solid slab type except bridge no.124/1, 146/1 and 149/1, which are of RCC T-Beam type. The Major Bridge is of PSC girder with open, well foundations.The condition of wearing coat, expansion joint, bearings, railings of most of the structures is generally poor. Toll Plaza There is 01 no. of Toll Plaza at Km 89.950 for existing major bridge at Banas River.
