The program is full-time. It is possible to complete the program in 4 consecutive semesters. The program is offered Face-to-face on Rowan’s Glassboro campus. Courses vary from 5 to 15 weeks long. Any exceptions are noted within this document. o This program includes two full -time, semester -long clinical internship placements in public schools. Program Features • • • The Master of Science in Teaching (MST) offers the unique opportunity for students to pursue an initial New Jersey teaching certificate and a Master's degree simultaneously. This program is designed for prospective Social Studies, English, Mathematics, Spanish, or Science teachers. Specific certification areas are below and each will require a specific set of foundation courses and additional admission requirements (as outlined within this document): o P-12 Biology o P-12 Chemistry o P-12 English o P-12 Foreign Language o P-12 Mathematics o P-12 Physical Science o P-12 Physics o P-12 Social Studies Note: There is also an MST available in Elementary Education and in Subject Matter: P-12 Theatre Education. The Master of Science in Teaching is offered by an Accredited Program of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). *Upon successful completion of all coursework in the Master of Science in Teaching program, students may apply and be recommended by Rowan University to the State of New Jersey for initial subject matter certification. However, please note that all foundation course requirements (listed in “Additional Admission Requirements for Specific MST Focus Areas” section of this document) must be met and approved before recommendation for certification is possible. Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) CGCE MST Focus Area Declaration Form (See “Additional Admission Requirements for Specific MST Focus Areas” within this document for a list of available focus areas.) Submission of official test results demonstrating passing scores on the Core Academic Skills for Educators: Praxis Core Basic Skills Test (Reading, Writing, Math) Interview (Students will be contacted directly by the Faculty Admissions Committee regarding the interview. The interview can be in person or via telephone.) On-site writing sample (conducted during interview) CGCE Foundation Course Completion Form (Each focus area requires foundation courses. Please see “Additional Admission Requirements for Specific MST Focus Areas” section within this document for details.) o During the admissions process, the MST Academic Advisor will determine foundation course equivalencies and how any unfinished undergraduate foundation courses can be scheduled concurrently with graduate enrollment. If applicable, official notification of any unfinished foundation courses will be included in the applicant’s official admission decision letter from Rowan University. Transfer Credit Evaluation Process and Policy The MST program does not allow transfer credit. The Personalized Course Sequence (PCS) All students admitted to this program are given a Personalized Course Sequence (PCS). The PCS is a unique feature of this program that provides students with: • • • • A fast track to degree/program completion; A reserved spot in all required courses throughout the entire program (barring any student holds or stop-outs); In most cases, the ability to take two courses per term and yet focus on only one at a time; and, Manual registration performed by CGCE on the student’s behalf each year. This means that (with rare exceptions) students will know their schedule well in advance and do not have to worry about registration deadlines in order to be enrolled in their required courses The information in this document is subject to change.
