The importance of investment in social and economic development cannot be over
emphasized. The ability of a nation to solve challenges of development and to initiate and
sustain economic growth depends largely on its capacity and capabilities to attract and
retain quality investment. Indeed, the Kenya Vision 2030 identifies investment as one of
its enablers for the envisaged industrial development and transformation into a middlelevel income state. This session will discuss the role of investment in the country and the
role the key reforms needed to continue improving the attractiveness of Kenya as an
investment destination.

Agriculture & Agri-business
Agriculture is the lifeblood of the Kenyan economy, directly contributing an average 26
percent of the GDP annually. The sector accounts for 65 percent of Kenya’s total exports
and provides more than 70 percent of informal employment in the rural areas. This panel
discussion will provide a comprehensive overview of the agriculture sector in Kenya. It
will highlight available opportunities, regulations, licenses and procedures for investment

Kenya’s key target areas have been identified and specific goals set to steer industrial
growth. These include the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Industrial
Parks, Industrial Clusters, promotion of small and medium scale manufacturing firms,
development of niche products, commercialization of research and development results,
attraction of strategic investors in strategic sectors, i.e. iron and steel industries,
manufacture of fertiliser, machine tools and machinery, motor vehicle assembly and
manufacture of spare parts. This panel seeks to address requirements for investing in the
sector and give the Governments initiative to make this a suave area of investment.

several hydrocarbons deposits and other minerals in commercially viable quantities were
found in the Northern and the coastal regions. This session will discuss current trends in
