UNT Basketball Game-NOVEMBER 17 @ 11:30 am
Last year our entire school attended the UNT Basketball Game.
Everybody had a wonderful time and the children received pom-poms
and a UNT backpack. We are intending to attend this year in an effort to
expose the children to our community outside our NRE walls.
If you are going you should have already purchased your T-shirt. All
NRE students and volunteers will be in the same shirt so Dr. Happy can
spot them easily. Faculty and Staff will wear their 2014-2015 NRE
Shirts that our PTA supplied for us at the beginning of the year. The
children will need to bring a lunch or get a sack lunch from the cafeteria.
We will begin loading buses about 10:30 am and return to campus
around 2:30 p.m.
EVERYBODY MUST WEAR YOUR NRE T-SHIRT TO GET IN FOR
FREE!
RED ALERT!
Our side parking lot is ONE WAY.
Everyday. someone pulls in backwards
and children and parents are in harms
way! There are new signs that now say
STOP ONE WAY. Don’t be that person
that is the cause of someone getting hurt
just to save a few minutes!

TEXAS NATIVE PLANT ART EXHIBITION 2014-2015
For the 7th year in a row, NRE 4th graders were invited to participate in the Texas Native Plant traveling art exhibit. The exhibit is sponsored
by the Texas Native Plant Society, Elm Fork Chapter. Only 2 or 3 other schools were invited to be in this exhibit. As the exhibit travels
around Denton, thousands of people will see our students’ watercolors! Below is a schedule of exhibit dates and locations. After the final
exhibit, the original artwork will return to Newton Rayzor.
Six watercolors were selected from EACH 4th grade class. Photos of the 30 paintings and the artists’ names will be posted in the hallways at
school and on the art webpage. We hope you have a chance to see at least one of the exhibits in person!

GOAL
GOALis a locally developed program intent on
providing students with leadership principles
needed for success at home, in school, and within
the community. GOAL promotes mental,
emotional, and physical wellness in high-trust
environmental whether at play or in the
classroom. GOAL scores big because not only
does the program empower students with a new
found sense of pride and ownership, it renews the
same feelings among families and within the
community itself. We are proud to welcome
Newton Rayzor to the GOAL League!
Learning in the Library!
What a great start to a new year! I want to thank everyone for the support I’ve received as the new librarian here at Newton
Rayzor. It’s been quite exciting getting the year going as a new librarian! Thank goodness I’ve been part of the NRE team
for 10 years – it’s made it much easier. I have had a lot of fun reading with your children and getting to know them
all! Kindergarten and I have shared many books together. We’ve had a great time laughing and learning AND singing
together. 1st grade has wow-ed me from the beginning. They are choosing their own books from the shelves using their
shelf markers and are starting to cart their own books after THEY check them in. Recently 2nd grade and I have begun to
learn how to take notes while researching and then writing our new learning into our own words. 3rd grade comes to the
library during specials so it’s been good to see them every week. They’ve learned about primary and secondary sources, as
well as, searching for books in the library based on the call number. 4th and 5th grade only come to the library every other
week to check out books, but I’ve been in their classrooms teaching alongside their teachers. Many of our 3rd through 5th
graders have been reading Bluebonnet books and are getting closer and closer to being eligible to vote for the best one in
January. They will be a contributing factor in who wins the title of being the best book in Texas! Keep up the great
reading!!

Attendance
Please do not bring your child to school late or pick
him/her up early unless you have a doctor’s
appointment that cannot be scheduled for out of
school time. State Law requires children attend
school. Tardies and early releases are part of the law
and if these are excessive we are required to file with
the courts.
