July 2014
Volume: 27 Issue: 2
Dear Newcomers and Friends,
Barnhill’s was a win-win solution for our Newcomers and Friends luncheon. Our food
was delicious and hot; the price was right ($10); plenty of parking was available. Everyone,
I talked to, said that it was a good choice !
This organization has so many members, who step-up-to-the-plate or go beyond the call of
duty. It is one of the things that I love most about our group! We needed an American flag
and a Texas flag for our luncheons, Rita Lorio secured both flags and made the stands to
support them. We needed a lectern - Janat and Edgar Ash purchased a beautiful mahogany
one, donating it to our club. We needed a gavel - Jerry Roberts bought one, and presented it
to me at our installation of officers. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness and kindness.
Texas Pledge
Honor the Texas
Flag; I pledge
allegiance to thee,
Texas, one state
under God, one
and indivisible.
A wonderful time was had by all at the Bridge Party held at Westminster Presbyterian
Church, There was excellent food, great fun and friendship. Thanks to Coordinator, Diane
Jonas, and all the bridge leaders.
Wishing you all a safe and happy 4th of July.
Joan Watson

JUNE COVERED DISH BRIDGE PARTY
At the Bridge Party on June 4, 2014, we lunched on a wonderful selection of
food and an overflowing dessert table. Thanks to all the leaders who worked
together to bring us a fun bridge party. We were joined by three husbands - J.R.
Honea, Jesse Richardson and Franklin Rude, who would have played if
needed. Thanks to everyone who attended.

The MISC Committee would like to thank all of you who have
participated in our events this past year. We’ve had fun planning the events and appreciate the positive feedback we have
received. Based on the MISC Survey that was done back in
March, we have some exciting events lined up for 2014-2015.
You can look forward to What’s Cooking 2. We’re also planning
a botanical garden tour this Fall. Shopping trips and craft events
are being discussed. Line Dancing starts again in September.
Your MISC Committee is taking the summer off. But, keep your
eye out for announcements of new events.
As always, we appreciate your feedback so let us know if there
is an event you would like us to investigate.
