global health and disease to the general population in addition to student
breakouts among the club
Questions from the
Committee:
Q: How do you differ from each other?
A: We are both from the same umbrella of Global Brigades but we each have a
different mission.
Q: How are you going to cover funds not covered by UPAC?

They work with Panamanian lawyers to teach them what their basic human
rights are as people. Teach them the basic concepts of contracts and how it is
helpful. Go into schools to teach them about debates and how to debate
respectfully. Deal with family law as well.
Q: How did you pick who goes?
A: You apply through Global Brigades and they choose who goes. Anyone is able
to apply and they screen the applications and the majority of students are
accepted. First come, first serve for the most part.
Questions from the
Committee:
Q: Are you limited to a number of students?
A: Dependent upon the Brigade, for Human Rights it is 25 people maximum and
they have not hit that mark.
Q: Do you take into consideration that number of trips people have been chosen
for?
A: Only Medical Brigades has had to choose how many people they want to take
and they look at participation points for who is most involved.

They teach financial literacy and provide consulting to rural communities. Teach
basic business concepts and savings because many community members face
saving difficulties and relatively difficult resource access. For example, they
create credit unions in the community for businesses that want to expand.

A: Food and other events which are open to the public.
Q: How will you advertise?
A: Listservs, social media, and advertisements in local radio stations and the Collegian in



Committee Discussion:
Great program for someone of Rev. Smith’s reputation to come to PSU. The
only issue is with staying in a hotel for two nights.
The Honoraria is great and a good price for notoriety and also has a connection
to Martin Luther King.

The Spring Break tour has been a way to showcase itself and bring in new members. All
the places on tour are a way to recruit members and Rutgers is more a conference event
where they can demonstrate how they have developed.
Q: Is your club open to everyone?
A: Yes, by audition and you have to be male. They also include a wide range of majors.
Questions from the
Committee:
Q: What will you bring back to Penn State?
A: The goal is notoriety and new recruits. They will also have the chance to keep up to
date in Glee Club developments.
Q: Are all 40 members going?
A: It has actually increased to 44 members.
Q: How will you be covering funds not covered by UPAC?
A: Individual members will be covering their own costs.


Great program and great tour, good way to show Penn State’s value through art
forms
There is a female counterpart to this club that provides the ability to perform
and request funds. We should fund this event because non-member females
are permitted to travel with the Glee Club, there just happens not to be any
women included in the trip.
