The Players Cup Overview
T
he Players Cup brings the excitement of PGA TOUR Canada to Winnipeg,
as the next generation of PGA TOUR players vie for their share of the
$150,000 purse. Competition is guaranteed to be fierce with every
paycheque counting towards one of five highly sought after cards on the
Web.com Tour at season’s end. Next to the Tour Championship, The Players Cup
has long been considered one of the TOUR’s “must-play” events, always drawing
one of the strongest fields of the year. Past competitors at The Players Cup include
current PGA TOUR card holding members Andres Gonzales and Canada’s own
Graham DeLaet, David Hearn and Brad Fritsch. This is your chance to see players
on their way to becoming PGA TOUR stars.
Professional golf in Manitoba dates back to the original Manitoba Open in 1919
and has always drawn one of the strongest fields in our country at the time.
In its many incarnations, professional golf in Manitoba boasts an impressive
list of past champions and participants. Names like George Knudson,
Moe Norman, Dan Halldorson, Glen Hnatiuk and Mike Weir have all
made their way through Manitoba on their way to the PGA TOUR.

Community Impact
T
he mantra of The Players Cup is "Tomorrow's Champions Start Here." On
and off the course, we provide a platform for people to learn how to win.
Whether it’s sinking a clutch putt or providing assistance to a young person
who is going through a challenging time in their life, The Players Cup is driven to
help people succeed.
The Players Cup has a proud tradition of community involvement and charitable
contribution. This is in keeping with the tournament’s charitable vision, which is
grow The Players Cup as an instrument for positive change in our community,
especially for disadvantaged children. Our vision has only strengthened since
becoming a member of the PGA TOUR family, which gives back to over 3,000
local charities every year and has collectively raised almost $2 billion for charitable
causes since inception. Locally, The Players Cup has been fortunate to give back to
our community over $300,000 since 2010. Much of this has been raised through
events such as the Boston Pizza FORE Kids Golf Classic and the tournament’s
Pro-Am events.
But raising money is only part of the story. The Players Cup also has access to PGA
TOUR Canada players for the purpose of inspiring youth and raising awareness
for important causes. In 2013 this involved taking part in the Winnipeg Aboriginal
Sport Achievement Centre’s summer camp, just one of many children’s charities
supported by the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation. Other involvement
saw PGA TOUR Canada players conduct junior development clinics at courses
throughout the Winnipeg area, teaching our youngest golfers some valuable golf
and life lessons in the process.
