ASSET INTEGRITY MAINTENANCE PROJECT QUEENSLAND ALUMINA REFINERY ROPE ACCESS ASSET INTEGRITY INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE AIM GLADSTONE, QUEENSLAND AIM QUEENSLAND ALUMINA REFINERY RIGGING AND ROPE ACCESS FOR INSPECTION AND INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE OF QAL'S $4B ASSET PROJECT OVERVIEW: Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) commenced in March 1967 with an annual production rate of 600,000 tonnes of alumina. Today QAL is one of the world's largest alumina refineries, producing some 3.95 million tonnes of the world's best smelter grade alumina per year. Estimated replacement value of QAL is approximately US$4 billion. The refinery covers 80 hectares of a 3050 hectare site on the south-east outskirts of the city of Gladstone. Adjacent to the plant is a wharf and storage facility on South Trees Island, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway bridge. Alumina is produced at QAL through the continuous four stage “Bayer Process”. In Gladstone Geovert hold a term maintenance contract for 35,000 man hours per year with the QAL refinery (one of the world’s largest alumina refineries), where we carry out all Non Destructive Testing, coating inspection, grit blasting and Weld repairs by Rope Access. SOLUTION: Our team on site consists of a WTIA cert 10 welding supervisor, L3 NDT supervisor, coded welders, fitters, riggers and Rope Access crews. Rope Access has revolutionised maintenance on mining refineries meaning significant savings are being made to maintenance and project budgets, and plant downtime has decreased.
