Providing Feedback to Learners
Feedback is an essential component of teaching and learning, yet many factors may
diminish or negate feedback. This module has been developed to increase
understanding of the principles of feedback, to identify barriers to its delivery,
and offer practical strategies for implementation of effective feedback.

Enhancing your Facilitation Skills as a PBL Tutor

This advanced workshop is for faculty who wish to further develop their roles as
tutors working with students in pbl (problem based learning) groups.
The focus of the session will be to:
> identify challenging issues in pbl
> discuss tutor strategies to address common problems
> share resources and techniques to enhance pbl group functioning

MD Program & PFD Partnership -MacEssentials: A Workshop for Tutors in the MD Program
(participants are expected to attend both evenings)
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Participation in MacEssentials is required preparation for tutoring in the MD Program program-specific tutor training for faculty interested in
becoming tutors in the Pre-Clerkship at the Hamilton Campus. Similar programs will be offered in Waterloo and Niagara Regional Campuses.
Topics to be covered include: Intro to PBL; Intro to the MD Pre-Clerkship Curriculum; MD Program tutorial case
format and process of tutorials; Role of the tutor in PBL; How to give feedback; Student Assessment

Critical Conversations
Although professionalism is an integral component of the curriculum for all health care
professionals, the teaching of professionalism is often haphazard. This module assists
preceptors in providing educationally appropriate opportunities for learning the principles of
professionalism within clinical settings.

Preparing for New Learners - Planning and Orientation
A systematic approach that fully integrates a learner into the clinical environment means
a more positive experience for everyone. This module provides strategies for preparing the
practice site for a learner's arrival; highlights the elements of an effective orientation program
and outlines the development of a learning plan that incorporates such issues as program,
practice and learner objectives, and details of how learning and teaching will occur during
the placement.

Working Together: Interprofessional Education and
Collaboration among Health Professionals

This module aims to help clinical teahers reflect on their own interprofessional collaborative
behaviour and effectively role model this behaviour to learners; facilitate learners' understanding
regarding the scope of practice/role of other professionals and identify opportunities to teach
collaborative care and to address structural barriers.

For faculty and their support staff to learn the basics of creating and maintaining an academic CV
in McMaster format. Participants are asked to bring their CVs to the session.
Objectives: to understand the importance of maintaining a CV in McMaster format; to be able to
identify the types of information that belong on the McMaster CV; to produce a CV that fully complies
with the McMaster CV guidelines and to know where to go for additional assistance.
