Peg’s January Notes 2015 HELLO LADIES & GENTLEMEN, Hello Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to the 2015 Poulsbo Garden Club Year. I hope all the bulbs in your garden are peeking their green foliage tips up out of the soil with promises of spring to come. I also hope 2015 is your best year yet. Please come early to the meeting this Saturday for the social time from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Visit with new and old friends, buy raffle tickets and partake of some special items from the Ways and Means table to purchase and take home. Here’s all the news so far for this year. Updated Bylaws Need Members’ Approval Our bylaws as of September 14, 2013 state that the bylaws must be reviewed at least every two years. A Put the caption for your photo here. committee made up of: Jan Colpitts (chair), Laura Allegre, Helen Muterspaugh, Jo Ellen Raymaker, Barbara Shoaf and Peg Tillery has been working on the amended bylaws for the last several months. The completed amended bylaws were presented to the PGC Board at the January 6 Board Meeting and approved. Please check your inboxes to read the new bylaws sent out this afternoon. Try really hard to read through the 7 pages and also the 4 page synopsis. We will be voting on these amended bylaws at this Saturday January 10 general membership meeting of the PGC. Plant Sale and/or Garden Tour Fundraiser Denise Vestman volunteered to oversee the 2015 Plant Sale location but she needs lots of helpers for other positions to fill and for gathering up plants now and through Jan through March. In addition, she’s hoping the PGC can launch the first Poulsbo Garden Tour this year. But – we need lots of volunteers for both fundraisers. And we do mean LOTS! Please express your interest in either of these endeavors at Saturday’s meeting. Look for the sign-up sheets on the membership table and we’ll also be passing the sign-up sheets around during the meeting. Program for Saturday January 10 This Saturday’s meeting promises to be a fun and healthy one. Our Program Chair Denise Vestman has arranged for Rob Sprague from Kitsap Physical Therapy to give a presentation on getting our bodies ready for the upcoming gardening season and how to prevent injuries. He will do a slide show, have hand outs and do some demonstrations. Question and answer session to follow. Field Trip to Albers Vista Garswapping activity. Left over books and magazines can be donated to friends of the library or the PGC. Upcoming Programs Denise is working on 3 supplemental field trips opportunities. 1) Northwest Flower and Garden Show February 11-15 – Two days are being considered – Wednesday and Thursday Feb. 11 & 12. 2) Field Trip to the Tulip Fields in Skagit County – the fields are open all during den in Bremerton – date to be determined. 3) Field Trip to Albers Vista Garden in Bremerton – date to be determined. . Eric’s talk will be followed by show and tell on ergonomic tools presented by Denise and Cathy Carson. 1) We need each member who’s coming on Saturday to bring magazines and books for a April – the date is yet to be determined, along with particular details. February and March PGC Speakers 1) February 14 – Poulsbo Library Enjoy Valentine’s Day by making one to three crafts – this will be great fun. 2)March 14 – Poulsbo Library - We partner with the Poulsbo Library with the event open to all PGC members and advertised to the public. The Speaker is Karen Chapman of Le Jardinet – her presentation will be "Designing with Foliage" and she’ll put together two huge seasonal containers that will be raffled off. In addition to her design business LeJardinet, Karen Chapman is the author of “Fine Foliage;” she’ll have books for sale at the event.
