Newsletter of the Wisconsin Association of FFA—Section 6
GETTING TO KNOW ME...
My name is Sally Albers, and I am from Prairie
du Sac, Wisconsin. I am 18 years old and this past May I graduated from Sauk Prairie
High School. My family consists of my mom, Kim, her husband Terry, and my siblings,
Sarah, and Lane. Sarah is 15, attending Sauk Prairie High School, and she is starting
her second year of being an FFA member. My brother Lane turns 7 in September and
will be starting first grade this year! I will be attending the University of Wisconsin:
River Falls after my year as an officer. My plan is to major in Agricultural Education
with hopes of one day becoming an Ag teacher. I grew about two miles from my family’s farm and when I was 14 I moved onto the farm. While living on the farm I started
my own Swine business, consisting of about six pigs each year. A few years ago my
family moved off the farm, but I have maintained my swine business, so I am there quite frequently. My favorite things to do in
FFA in high school ranged from working concession stands at our
Alumni Tractor Pull to participating in Extemporaneous Speaking, Parliamentary Procedure, and Ag Sales. Outside of FFA you
could find me on the softball diamond playing a variety of positions, or on the marching band field playing my mellophone and
flute. I am ecstatic to get to know all of you and if there is
ever anything you need please don’t hesitate to ask!
TARGET SUCCESS.
TAKE ACTION.
After much consideration over a theme for
the year, my teammates and I decided on
“Target Success. Take Action.” In everything
we do, we should first determine the outcome we wish to achieve, and then act in
a way that will help us reach that outcome.
Each and every one of us has things we hope to achieve. But unless we lay those
things out and make our decisions every day with those things in our focus, we
may never achieve them.
I encourage each of you to determine your goals so you can:
Target Success.
Take Action.
National Institute on Cooperative Education
On July 26th, Leeah, Kaitlyn and I flew out to Virginia with Emma Brost and Carlie O’Donnell from
the Big Foot FFA Chapter and Marisa Martinez from Minnesota to attend the National Institute on
Cooperative Education (NICE Conference). The conference was all about cooperatives and by the end
of the week were all successfully running our own co-ops. The conference was a great learning experience and showed us all how important cooperatives are to our economy. While at the conference,
Carlie O’Donnell was selected to represent Wisconsin for the Youth Scholar contest, and she did a
great job being selected to win the female Youth
Scholar Award and invited back to attend the conference next year! If you’re interested in learning more
about cooperatives you should ask your advisor about
attending the Co-ops YES! conference March 16-17!
Wisconsin State Fair
If you were at the State Fair and heard chanting of “Go Veggies
Go” or saw Veggie 500 ribbons pinned to the shirts of proud racers, then you have an idea of what the State Officer Team was up
to. We had the opportunity to educate children about vegetables at
the Veggie Races, and about the food they find in the grocery
store at the Discovery Barnyard Entertainment Stage. It was so
much fun to see the many exhibitors and hear the FFA band and
choir perform! State Fair truly has some fun for everyone
whether it be the big slide, cream puffs, music, animals, or even
fashion shows!
Farm Technology Days
This year the Farm Technology Days were located in Portage county,
hosted by Blue Top Farms and Feltz Family Farms. All three days the
State Officer team conducted tours of the dairy, and while we were
giving our tours vegetable farm tours were also being conducted.
Because of its sandy soils, Portage County is top ranked in the state
for vegetable production! This was a great experience being able to
advocate for agriculture and learn more about the dairy industry.
During the week the Safe Tractor Operators Contest and the State
Soils Competition took place. Congratulations to all those that participated! Be sure to check out Farm Technology Days next summer
in Dane County!
Sectional Leadership Workshops!!!
Get ready Wisconsin FFA because this years SLWs are going to be full of ACTION! In order to prepare us for the
state theme of “Target Success. Take Action.”, SLWs this year will be teaching us all about “3...2...1...ACTION!”
Section 6 get excited to learn about the action we can take to make ourselves successful.
Chapter officers will be able to meet with other officers throughout their sections with similar
positions. This will give them the opportunity to learn all about their new positions and allow them to start taking action! High School members will have the opportunity to meet with
other members to learn about the action they can take within their chapters to reach their
targeted success. Middle School Members will have the chance to develop their leadership
skills and will be able to assess different ways they can use their skills within their chapters
by taking action!
The State Officers are excited to show Wisconsin FFA that “We’re All In This Together!”
FIRE Conference
FFA members get ready for the trip of a lifetime as this year’s
FIRE Conference shows us the way with its theme, “Road Signs
to Success.” We will learn all about the “routes” we can take in
FFA and how they can all get us to our “destination of success.”
Workshops are a time to discover what makes our organization
so great! We will also learn how to overcome any bumps in the
road we may come across.
The State Officers have been working hard to fix the foundation
of this conference to make sure that it provides a stronger and
more meaningful foundation for all of you! The calendar on
page 5 has all of the dates of the FIRE conference, so make sure
to find one that works for you!
