NEXT STEPS
Joe Sorrera, Assistant Superintendent, and the design team
responded to questions regarding the next steps in the bond
planning process.
How much money will be available to Orange High School if the bond passes?
The Board of Trustees will determine the total amount of a bond to be put in front of the voters in November of 2014. That
amount will be “split” evenly among the four comprehensive high schools.
What can be accomplished with the maximum amount of money available in the first phase?
The design team is working on cost models as we speak. What we do know is that the maximum bond availability will not
complete the vision of the master plan(s). We understand that transforming our aging high schools will be a longer term process.
If the bond doesn’t pass, what is our alternative to improve our high schools?
There is no alternative. Accessing state funding requires the District to have “matching” dollars, so for us to be able to leverage
those funds, we must have money at the local level. Currently, the state funds have been exhausted. It is unknown at this time
whether the state will be placing a School Facilities Bond on the 2014 ballot. We will certainly put ourselves in line for those future
funds, but again, we have to have our matching money to be granted any state dollars.
Will the Board of Trustees approve the Master Plan on February 13th?
No. In February and March, the Board of Trustees will see and hear the vision for the master plans at each of the four high schools.
Additionally, we will be doing voter polling to determine the level of support that the community is willing to give. All of these
factors will influence the Board’s decision regarding a local General Obligation Bond. We urge you to come to these Board
sessions and show your support!
The community attended 4 workshops to develop, refine and support a vision for the future of Orange High School.
