I have over 20 years’ experience in the NHS working primarily with adults with physical disabilities and physical health needs across both the acute and community sectors. I have extensive experience of working with adults with acquired neurological conditions from acute stages through inpatient rehabilitation and into the community. This includes working with individuals who have suffered a stroke, brain injury and have progressive neurological conditions. My particular area of interest is in cognitive assessment and rehabilitation for which I have completed a number of post graduate courses and supported colleagues in this area of practice. I am also passionate about assisting individuals to return to their desired life goals be that work, leisure or social activities. In recent years I have worked with a mixed caseload in a community setting from palliative care through to enabling individuals with long term conditions to optimise their function and improve their quality of life. I have skills in the assessment of seating and posture, knowledge of a wide range of adaptive equipment and community resources. I am involved in the development of an integrated Occupational Therapy service which involves developing and sharing of skills traditionally undertaken by local authority Occupational Therapists including minor adaptations and fixed/ specialist equipment provision. At a management level I have led a team, provided support and supervision, managed attendance and a budget. This has included recruitment and selection, implementing policies and procedures and developing the service provided.
