President's Message
by Maureen O. Betita
Life is better at sea. Hope to see you all at the retreat!
Editor's Note
by Christie Maurer
The newsletter needs your articles and news!
My RWA grace period ended September 30. An ungraced former
member is getting out this newsletter.
An ungraced newsletter producer cannot get any more of the
articles you’ve enjoyed, so I’m asking you to submit yours. We are all
writers. We all have something to share--our wisdom, our experiences.
Even the most beginning writer has experienced the joy and
frustration of turning on the computer or getting out the blank sheet
of paper and staring at it. And the multi-published writer must again
turn on the computer and try to dredge up wonders, charming heroes
and heroines, and dastardly villains, whose adventures intrigue readers
enough to buy the book, to draw them in and keep them turning
pages--or flipping the Kindle/iBook screen. Maybe you earn praise,
recognition, or an award.
Do share.
Send me your news and articles. Do you have a new book coming
out? A breakthrough? A great idea? Philosophy of Life and Writing?
Deadline for submission is October 20 to maure4cr at baymoon.com
See you at the retreat.
FYI November 2 is El dia de los muertos, Day of the Dead. To
paraphrase Terry Pratchett’s immortal Granny Weatherwax:
We ain’t dead.

VOL. 11 - ISSUE 11 - NOVEMBER 2014
Sunday November 2, 2014 Meeting
(Not Saturday November 1)
Monterey Bay Chapter's next meeting is on Sunday, November 2, 2014, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., an allday, no-cost, meals included Writers’ Retreat at Chaminade Conference Center, 1 Chaminade Lane, Santa Cruz
95065 - (831) 475-5600 (http://www.chaminade.com/)
Directions:
Exit Highway 1 at Soquel Drive.
From the north, follow the exit ramp around to the right to Soquel Drive. Turn right on Soquel Drive, a
long block. Left on Paul Sweet Road, continue less than a mile until you reach Chaminade Lane on the right.
From the south, Follow the exit ramp to Soquel Drive. Go straight across Soquel onto Paul Sweet Road
and continue less than a mile until you reach Chaminade Lane on the right.
Bring your appetite, the food is excellent, and your favorite writing tools--laptops, iPads, smart phones, yellow
lined pads, pencils, pens… NaNoWriMo will have just started, and this is an excellent opportunity to make
significant progress. I like to have a couple of thousand words ahead for those days when “life” (Thanksgiving)
and “the gods” (a power outage) interfere with my cranking out that 1,667 words.
