Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch
SONET/SDH MEDIA DEPENDENT ADAPTERS
The SONET/SDH Media Dependent Adapters (MDAs) for the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch
(ESS) provide the critical high-speed interfaces that service providers require for point of presence (POP)
interconnection to leverage the installed SONET/SDH network.
The Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS SONET/SDH
MDAs provide:
• Interface speeds from OC-3/STM-1
to OC-48/ STM-16
• Multirate OC-3/OC-12, soft selectable
per port
• Multimode and single-mode media
types
• Small form factor pluggable (SFP)
optics for greater flexibility
F E A T U R E S
SONET/SDH MDAs are hot-swappable,
half-slot modules and support the full
scope of the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS
feature set, including:
• Flexible services:
¬ high-density service-aware Ethernet
aggregation for residential triple play
• Optical link budgets supporting
distances up to 85 km (52.8 mi.)
¬ Ethernet virtual leased lines (VLLs)
for point-to-point Layer 2 business
virtual private networks (VPNs)
• Industry-leading density – 800 OC-3/
STM-1 ports or 100 OC-48/STM-16
ports per seven-foot rack
¬ virtual private LAN service (VPLS/
H-VPLS) for multipoint Layer 2
business VPNs
• In-service removal and insertion
• IP and MPLS tunneling
• Fast reroute (FRR) – sub -50 ms failover
The Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS SONET/SDH
MDAs provide standards compliance as
well as very high density and flexibility,
ensuring cost-effective and interoperable
connectivity solutions for service providers
in a wide range of metro, national and
international Ethernet services.
The MDAs’ modular design maximizes
investment protection and asset longevity
through module portability across the
Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS portfolio.
• Wire-speed forwarding performance
with services, access control lists (ACLs)
and accounting enabled
• Scalable, reliable and predictable
Ethernet WAN services
• Thousands of ingress and egress ACLs
• Per-service hierarchical quality of
service, with up to 200 ms buffering
at 10 Gb/s
• Per-service accounting and billing
• Integrated operations, administration
and maintenance (OA&M) features
MDA Density for the ESS Family
SONET/SDH MDAs for the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS offer industry-leading density for all interface speeds. The table below
