Iraqi cities recently captured by the Islamic
State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) show marked
average decreases in energy service
provision (-84% since 4/1/2014) compared to
their unoccupied counterparts (+6%).

change mitigation.

from daily VIIRS night-sky imagery. This provides us
with new insights into how human dimensions impact
patterns of energy use.
