LG to flag off Andaman
Marathon today

The
much
awaited
Andaman Marathon will be
flagged of by the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, at National Memorial Cellular
Jail, at 5.30 a.m. on Feb 1. A
record number of 800 runners have registered for the
two competitive events of
10 kms and 21 kms (half
marathon). The third event
Run for Fun for 1.5 kms requires no registration and
anybody can participate in
it.
Among the registered
participants, 60 are women,
30 senior citizens and 15
overseas elite runners. Mr.

Japanese Ambassador calls on LG
*Proposed Chatham-Bambooflat bridge discussed

Marathon, has already arrived to participate in the
event. It’s the 31st visit of
Mr. Bose to Andamans since
tsunami of 2004. The cash
prizes of Rs. 7 lakhs are on
offer for the winners of the
events. The prize distribution will take place at Netaji
Stadium, at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Parliamentary Committee arrives today
PORT BLAIR, JAN 31/-/The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution is
scheduled to arrive at Port Blair on a twoday visit to the islands.
The programme of the committee includes visit to Food Corporation Storage,
Fair Price Shops, Consumer Fora etc. in Port
Blair and discussion with the representa-
tives of the Food Corporation of India (FCI),
Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC)
and with the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration on subject matters of the committee. The committee is also scheduled to visit
places of historical importance and tourist
interest in and around Port Blair. On completion of visit, the committee will leave for
mainland on February 03, 2015.
Coast Guard organizes Walkathon

Mr Takeshi Yagi, Ambassador of Japan to India, who
is on a visit to the A&N Islands called on the Lt Governor Lt Gen A K Singh
(Retd), this morning at Raj
Niwas.
Welcoming the Ambas-
sador, the Lt Governor mentioned that he is looking
forward to stronger bonds
with Japan and a new development chapter for
A&N Islands with the assistance of Japan. During
the discussions, Lt Governor mentioned about the
huge potential in Tourism
& Fisheries which need to
be exploited and sought
their assistance in this regard.
The Japanese Ambassador expressed that his
country was keen to assist
in development of infra-
structure like bridges and
ports. The Lt Governor suggested that there is a dire
need for a bridge connecting
Chatham
and
Bambooflat, and suggested
that this could be built under India-Japan Cooperation arrangement and can
be called ‘The Friendship
Bridge’. Earlier, the Chief
Secretary, Mr. Anand
Prakash and senior officers
of the Administration gave
a presentation to the visiting Japanese Ambassador
and discussed areas of mutual interest.

Takeshi Yagi, Ambassador of Japan, who is on a three-day visit to
the Andaman & Nicobar Islands,
visited the Andaman & Nicobar
Command on 31 Jan 2015. He called
on Vice Admiral Pradeep K
Chatterjee, PVSM, AVSM, NM the
Commander-in-Chief. He was
briefed on geo-strategic importance
of A & N Islands and given an overview of the Command. The Ambassador will be visiting the historic
Ross Island on 01 Feb 2015 before
departing for New Delhi.

PORT BLAIR, JAN 31/-/Walkathon with
the theme ‘Go Green – Save Environment’
was organised by Headquarters Coast
Guard Region (A&N) in association with
Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association on
31 Jan 15 at Port Blair. The event was
flagged off by Inspector General K
Natarajan, Commander Coast Guard Region
(A&N) from the historic Veer Savarkar Park
and culminated at CG Indoor Sports Complex, Haddo. CG personnel and their families, Naval NCC cadets, students from KV-I
& II and Tamil Medium School Haddo enthusiastically participated and made the
event a grand success. The aim of the event
was to spread awareness about preserving
the rich ecology of the pristine A&N Islands besides physical fitness and well being of personnel. The Regional Commander
appreciated the overwhelming participation by all including schools for a noble
cause and lauded their efforts in reaching
out to the local populace for generating
awareness to save environment. The event
was part of the CG Day 2015 celebrations
and many more activities like Drawing,
Quiz, etc., is planned for the benefit of
school children said PRO, Coast Guard.
Animal Welfare Fortnight concludes

The valedictory function of
the Animal Welfare Fortnight, 2015, was held at the
Veterinary Hospital, Goal
Ghar, on 30th January. The
Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Mr. J. B. Singh was
the Chief Guest on the occasion. Among others, Mr. G.
S. Pandey, Director of Agriculture,
Mr.
Chandrashekhar, Director
of Fisheries, Dr. Shiv Kumar,
Director of Animal Husbandry, Mr. G. B. Mathur,
President SPCA, staff members, school students and
teachers graced the occasion. In his address, Mr. J. B.
Singh congratulated the
whole team and students for
their generous participation
and appreciated the efforts
of the Animal Husbandry
Department in organizing
the function.
Earlier, Dr. Shiv Kumar
highlighted the various pro-
grams which were held during the Animal Welfare Fortnight e.g. the essay & painting competitions for students, bird feeding program
at Marina Park, bird
friendly tree planting in
Dollygunj Farm and the
demonstrations at the Veterinary Hospital. Prizes
were distributed to the students who stood first, second and third in the essay &
painting competitions. Consolation prizes were also
given. Proposing the vote of
thanks, Dr. Bardhan made a
special mention of the support given by the State
Transport Department, Directorate of Health Services, the Police Department,
the students and the Principals of the schools to make
the program a grand success.
