Ms Haythorpe was elected unopposed last year, after Mr Gavrielatos announced his resignation in November to take up a position with the international union, Education International. Mr Gavrielatos has been AEU Federal President for seven years and played a key role in the union’s campaigns for Gonski funding reforms and for high-quality public education. She became active in the South Australian branch of the union in the 1990s and served as branch President from 2008 to 2013.
