The Lafayette, Tenn., native also set career-highs for field goals made (12) and attempted (15) and hit a pair of 3-pointers in the win. After netting only 31 total points in six outings from December 6-January 15, she averaged 14.3 over three contests from Jan. 17-24, including nine in the victory at Lindsey Wilson last week. Unfortunately for Pryor, her 3-point shooting continues to falter. She made 42 percent (27-of-64) from behind the arc through the first 13 games of the season, making four 3-pointers against Bryan College and Reinhardt University and posting nine outings with at least two trifectas. She has connected on only 19 percent (7-of-36) in the last seven contests. Pryor still ranks second on the club in scoring for the season, averaging 9.2 points per game and ranks seventh in the Mid-South in 3-point percentage (.340). Fason continues scoring off the bench Junior guard Jalita Fason has been one of the few bright spots during a tough month of January for Cumberland, averaging 10.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in seven contests. The Jackson, Tenn., native has scored in double figures four times in the last seven outings with another game of nine points. Her production off the bench dates to December 6 against Campbellsville University, posting five games in doubledigits and eight contests with eight or more points (in 10 total outings), shooting 47 percent from the field during that stretch. She netted 6-of-8 points during an 11-1 run in the first half against Martin Methodist and finished with a dozen points and registered 12 points and eight rebounds versus Tennessee Wesleyan. Bulldogs struggle offensively in January Before breaking out for 83 points last Saturday against Fisk University, Cumberland struggled offensively in the month of January, averaging just 52.4 points per outing. The Bulldogs shot 44 percent from the floor and 35 percent from 3-point range in the first 13 games of the season but just 36 percent overall and 17 percent from behind the arc in five outings between January PRONUNCIATIONS Tasia Blue. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Cumberland shot just 30 percent in the first half and trailed by eight at the break and 12 early in the second half before falling 47-43 at the University of the Cumberlands. The University of Pikeville used a 16-2 run early in the second half to break open a one-point game in a 69-65 victory over the Bulldogs. CU connected on just 27 percent in the first half in that contest. The Bulldogs finally made some layups and shot 43 percent in last week’s win at Lindsey Wilson. Cumberland was just 12-54 under head coach Jeremy Lewis when scoring less than 60 points heading into the 56-54 victory at LWC. Hall continues scoring but at low percentage Junior guard Chelsey Hall is the only Cumberland player averaging double figures heading into Saturday’s contest against the University of the Cumberlands, but she is at the top of the missed shots column since the return from break. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native has made only 34-of-108 shots (32 percent) in the last seven games, including 11-for-45 (24 percent) from 3-point range. Her tough luck includes a breakaway layup and two missed free throws in a two-possession stretch versus Martin Methodist with the Bulldogs trailing by six with two minutes to play. Hall posted 14 points on Thursday against the University of Pikeville but hit just 6-of-19 shots overall and 2-of-7 from behind the arc. Despite her struggles, Hall ranks fourth in the Mid-South in scoring at 15.5 points per game, third in steals per game (2.20), tied for sixth in 3-pointers made (38) and seventh in assists per game (3.60). CU needs Lawson’s scoring, rebounding Senior Brittany Lawson missed all of preseason practice as well as the first five games this season after undergoing knee surgery in early September. She played in her first game November 11 and gave the club glimpses of potential in the first nine outings, including 16 points at Georgetown College and 12 points and eight rebounds against Middle Georgia State. The St. Louis, Mo., native registered 10 points and eight boards at Reinhardt University just before the Christmas break but returned with only seven points and one carom against Martin Methodist. She grabbed 11 rebounds versus Tennessee Wesleyan, looking more like the player who collected four double-doubles in nine games last season before losing the second semester to academics. Hall voted Mid-South Player of the Week Cumberland’s Chelsey Hall was voted the MidSouth Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on November 24 after posting 18.3 points and 3.7 assists in three contests. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native collected 20 points with four assists against No. 2 FreedHardeman, hitting 8-of-12 shots with a pair of 3-pointers. The junior guard tallied nine points, all in the second half, with four assists in a road win at 17th-ranked Georgetown College. Hall posted 26 points with five 3-pointers in another road win at Shawnee State. She netted 19 of her team’s 32 points in the first half of the win and was 8-for-15 from the field and 5-of-6 at the foul line in the contest. Neal’s rebounding efforts sorely missed Junior forward Bre Neal is academically ineligible for the second semester and her absence has left a major hole in the middle for Cumberland. The Memphis, Tenn., native was averaging 9.2 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game, which included seven outings with nine or more boards and two double-digit rebounding efforts. She posted 15 points and 10 boards in the season opener against Bryan College, registered 12 points and nine caroms at Georgetown 2014-15 Cumberland Women’s Basketball Game 21 - Univ. of the Cumberlands Head Coach Jeremy Lewis Jeremy Lewis begins his sixth season as head coach for women’s basketball at Cumberland University and his 10th as a full-time coach at his alma mater. It is also Lewis’ 14th year as a member of the Bulldog family as both a player and coach. Lewis led the program to one of the most successful years in school history in 2012-13, finishing 33-3 overall and No. 4 in the final rankings. The Bulldogs won the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles and reached the NAIA Fab Four for the second time in program annals. Lewis was voted Mid-South Conference and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Russell Athletic/Region 5 Coach of the Year during the campaign. CU made its fifth appearance in the NAIA National Tournament and first since 2007 when the club reached the championship game. Cumberland was ranked in the Top 10 nationally from the first regular season poll of the year in December until the postseason, reaching as high as No. 5 in the country, then the highest ranking ever for the program. The Bulldogs won their first regular season and conference tournament titles since 1998-99, also in the Mid-South Conference, and set the school record for victories, surpassing the previous mark of 27 held by the 1998-99 and 2006-07 squads. Jessica Pace earned First Team All-Mid-South Conference accolades and TaCouya Allen, Briannica Tye and London Elie each garnered Second Team All-MSC honors. Pace also received Honorable Mention All-America honors from the WBCA and Second Team All-America accolades from the NAIA. Lewis took over the women’s program in May 2009 as interim head coach and had the interim tag removed by Director of Athletics Ron Pavan in January 2010. The Bulldogs finished the season 9-18 overall in his first year but dropped nine games by seven points or less during the campaign. Allysia Bailey was voted TranSouth Conference Newcomer of the Year, Stephanie Martin was an All-Freshman Team selection and four players earned TranSouth Scholar-Athlete honors. CU improved to 14-16 in 2010-11 and upped its record in TranSouth Conference play to 6-10. The squad lost five games by nine points or less that season as well. Casie Cowan garnered Second Team All-TranSouth and AllFreshman Team accolades and four players were named TranSouth ScholarAthletes. The 2011-12 club started the season 3-10 overall with losses to three ranked teams and three others who were ranked in the second half of the campaign. The Bulldogs turned the season around in January, winning 12 of their final 16 contests, including two losses to eventual national runner-up Union University by a combined seven points. Cowan earned Honorable Mention AllAmerica honors at the end of the season while Tamara Gonzalez was named an NAIA National Scholar-Athlete. Cowan garnered First Team All-TranSouth honors for the second straight season and Simone Ryan and Courtney Atkinson both garnered Second Team accolades. Last season the club suffered through a myriad of issues from injuries to illness and ineligibility. Despite a depleted roster that included several games with only seven healthy bodies, Cumberland battled to a 9-9 mark at the end of January that included six defeats and a pair of wins over ranked opponents. The lack of depth showed in the month of February, with the squad losing seven straight before ending the year with a victory on Senior Day. Cowan and Allen both earned Second Team All-Mid-South Conference honors and Tasia Blue was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. Before becoming the women’s head coach, Lewis served four seasons as a full-time assistant for coach Lonnie Thompson and the CU men’s team. His roles included scouting, recruiting, film exchange and budgeting, as well as monitoring the student-athletes’ progress both on and off the court. His main responsibilities included developing the team’s wing and guard positions, composing scouting reports for game preparation and recruiting incoming studentathletes. During his four seasons as an assistant coach, the Bulldogs compiled a 68-56 overall mark, including 46-18 in the final two seasons with consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament in 2008 and 2009.
