CLEHONGER TO HEREFORD
(AFTERNOON BUS WALK)
13.00. Catch the 13.10 Hay Ho! bus from Hereford Railway Station (also calls at Country
Bus Station, Broad Street and all stops on Belmont Road). Alight at Clehonger for a walk
through orchards and on the Marches Way into Hereford. Moderate. Approx. 5 miles. Bring
snack.
Back into Hereford for about 16.30. Registered assistance dogs only.

LOWER SLOPES OF SUGARLOAF
10.00 (WRCP 09.05). Meet at the Bus Station Car Park, Abergavenny (free on Sundays),
OL13/SO 301140 (by the Swan Hotel, NP7 5ER). A 7.5 mile, energetic walk with two steep
ascents taken slowly. Walking through the streets of Abergavenny to meet up with the track
to the lower slopes of the Sugar Loaf. Climb to the top if weather and time allow. Walking
back down via St Mary’s Vale to the car park. Good views on a fine day. BPL.

field-paths and lanes – may have a few stiles, some small inclines and some muddy

WALK IN THE WYE VALLEY
10.00 (WRCP 09.25). Park in the second car park in Lower Redbrook travelling from
Monmouth, OL14/SO 537098. This 7.5 mile moderate walk follows the Wye Valley Walk
from Redbrook to Bigsweir and returns via woodland and field paths on Offa’s Dyke. BPL.

“Wilderness” on the north side of Plump Hill on the A4136, about a mile south of

features of former industry and a healing well along the way. BPL.

HAY HO! BUS WALK – HAY AND KILVERT COUNTRY
10.00. Catch no.39A bus at 10.10 from Hereford railway station (Broad street 10.17, Tesco
Belmont 10.23). Alight Hay and walk across the river to Clyro, and up to the Begwns to visit
some of the spots recorded by Rev. Francis Kilvert, returning from Llowes on the Wye valley
walk. Maybe time for tea in Hay before catching 17.20 bus, arrives Hereford at 18.23. 9.5

DAWN CHORUS AT HAUGH WOOD
05.30. to approx. 08.00. Park at Haugh Wood. EXP189/SO 593365. Get up early and
enjoy the special atmosphere as the birdlife wakes up as dawn breaks. Marika will help you
to identify a variety of birds as they break into song welcoming the dawn. We will EXPlore
around Haugh Wood and Joanshill Farm, an open area. 4 miles. This is an easy walk but
the main emphasis is to listen quietly to the birds. Plenty of time for a natter over a BBQ
breakfast. Bring a snack if you wish.

William Morris, the walk climbs through the Broadway Tower Country Park to the tower with

Briavels, taking in some of Offa’s Dyke path and visiting the Devil’s Pulpit for a great view.

benefit of the group as a whole. If you should leave the walk early, please notify the leader.
Please do not walk in front of the leader. Keep in single file on all roads. Accidents or
incidents that occur during the course of the walk, should be reported to the leader
immediately. Persons under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Insurance: All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them
and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being the paramount
concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, that when entering into
the activity, each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards
associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the
potential for an accident to arise.

Guidance on grades:
Easy Access; Walks for everyone, including people with conventional wheelchairs and
pushchairs, using easy access paths. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn.
Assistance may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections.
Easy: Walks for anyone who does not have a mobility difficulty or a specific health problem
or is seriously unfit. Suitable for pushchairs if they can be lifted over occasional obstructions.
Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn.
Leisurely: Walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience.
May include un-surfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing
recommended.
Moderate: Walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness.
May include some steep paths and open country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof
clothing essential.
Strenuous: Walks for experienced country walkers with above average fitness level. May
include hills and rough country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing essential.
Transport/Car Parking: Think green, try and car share. If you require a lift, contact the walk
leader who may be able to organise a lift for you. Don’t leave valuables in your car in full
view of thieves, and remember to lock your car. Protect against theft or vandalism.
The pick-up point for Ross Group – WRCP = Wilton Road Car Park.
The pick-up point for Leadon Vale Group – BSCP = Bridge Street Car Park.
Colwall Station is to become an alternative car pick-up or car-share point for Leadon Vale.
Exp 190 SO756425 Car Parking is free and it is served by a regular train service.
Notes:
For a full days walk bring a packed lunch = BPL - and plenty to drink.
