The town I was born in is on a lake on the edge of the prairie so the
wind is always blowing at least 10-15 mph. I consulted a wind chill
chart and noted that it would be about -77°F. As you can see from
the Frostbite Times picture, that temperatures under -60°F would
result in frostbite in 5 minutes on exposed skin.
In Maui it would
be safe to
assume it
averages about
+77°F (at night).
That would mean
it was about
-140°F colder
than Maui on the
day of my
birth…….. Are
there any
questions about
why I left there?
I just have to look at the weather report from my home town to
cheer myself up! If that doesn’t work I call my sister who still lives
near “snowball” lake.
PS Happy Valentine’s Day and Chinese New -Year of the Sheep.
With Aloha,
Steve Hansen, General Manager

Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14. Traditionally in the west,
this is the day that lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's
cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. The holiday, often referred to
as St. Valentine’s Day, is named after two among the numerous Early Christian
martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the
circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly
love flourished.
The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the
form of "valentines." Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline,
doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid.
To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance. - Oscar Wilde
