Jo was born in Quincy, Illinois on November 6, 1933 to the late Charles and Josephine Day. Miss Josephine Day was united in marriage to Mr. Melvin Garner on January 4, 1953; this union was blessed with four children. It was in 1982 that Mel and Jo started Garner Refrigeration and Heating, with Jo doing the bookwork from home as she raised their family. Jo was an avid bowler and spent countless hours at the bowling alley, hours well spent when she did bowl a perfect 300. Before her illiness she was a very active member of the Rolla Elks Lodge, The Eagles, and the Moose Lodge. Jo had many roles but her favorite was being a mother and grandmother, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the highlight of her world, she loved every minute of the time she could spend together. Jo will be remembered most for her ever present smile, spunk, quick wit, and her love of life. Jo is survived by her children, Robert Garner and wife Annette Garner, David Garner, and Deanna Brown and significant other Charles Worley; grandchildren, Ashley Anderson and husband Justin, Johanna Garner, James Garner and wife Nancy Garner, Trevor Garner, Jason Garner, and Lakota Worley; great-grandchildren, Caden and Aliyah Anderson, Michael, Jesse, Joseph, and Bradyn Garner. In addition to her parents Jo was preceded in death by her husband Melvin in 2012; son, Michael Garner; and brothers, Fred and Charles Day. Funeral services for Jo Garner were held January 28, 2015 at the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Dan Phillips officiating. Memorials are suggested to The American Cancer Society, cards are available at all James & Gahr locations. You can email Jim Reck at [email protected]
