WHY BLUE DEMONS?
In 1900, when the first athletic team to represent
DePaul University was organized, the monogram
“D” was selected for the uniforms. This originated
the nickname “D-men” which evolved into “Demons.” The blue, which combines with Demons,
signifies loyalty and was chosen in 1901 by a vote
of the student body.

Three Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Five Times: DePaul’s Myke Henry, Tommy Hamilton IV and Billy
Garrett Jr. have been named to a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll following outstanding weekly efforts on the
court. Henry was named to the weekly team on Dec. 1 and Jan. 26 while Hamilton earned the honor on Dec.
8 and Garrett on Jan. 5 and Jan. 19.
Following career-best games against Lehigh and Stanford, junior forward Myke Henry was named to the
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Dec. 1. Henry averaged 26.5 points and 8.0 rebounds during the week while
shooting .618 (21-34) from the field. The Chicago native posted his first career double-double with 24 points

Stanford with six rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and two steals.
Henry picked up his second weekly honor after averaging 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in games at Seton
Hall and Xavier. Henry scored 14 points with eight rebounds, two blocked shots and steal at Seton Hall last
Thursday. The Chicago native went 7-for-12 from free throw line to lead the Blue Demons into a first-place tie

Two days later at Xavier, Henry totaled 13 points with eight rebounds at Xavier on Saturday. He hit two of
DePaul’s season-high 13 three-pointers while registering his fourth straight game in double-figures.

the Cougars and became just the fourth player in school history to not miss a shot in a game with a minimum
of seven attempts. Hamilton concluded his strong weekly performance with 15 points, nine rebounds and
three blocked shots against Milwaukee.
Garrett averaged 17.0 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting .688 from the floor helping
DePaul beat Marquette and Xavier. He led DePaul with 19 points that included eight points in the final 3:30 to

minutes left and gave the Blue Demons the lead for good with two free throws shortly thereafter. On Jan. 3
against Xavier, he recorded his second career double-double with 15 points and 10 assists with a team-high
five rebounds.
In games against Georgetown and St. John’s, Garrett averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
He went 20-for-21 from the free throw line in the two games including a 13-for-13 effort against the Red
Storm. Garrett scored 16 points and matched his career high with six rebounds against Georgetown. He also
added five assists and went 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the 78-72 loss to the Hoyas. Against St. John’s,
he scored a season-high 20 points that included the 13 straight free throws. Garrett added two rebounds, two
assists and two steals in leading the Blue Demons to the 71-67 overtime win over the Red Storm.

GAME TWENTY-FOUR VS. SETON HALL
Wilson Chandler Extends NBA Streak to 40 Straight Years: With Wilson Chandler
(2005-07) making his season debut on Oct. 29 against Detroit, he extended DePaul’s streak to 40 straight seasons with a former Blue Demon playing in the NBA.
Chandler is averaging 9.9 points and 4.7 rebounds through nine games with the
Denver Nuggets this season.
Bill Robinzine started the streak with Sacramento Kings in the 1975-76
season. A total of 17 players have played over the 40 straight years of DePaul influence in the NBA. In addition to Chandler playing this season for Denver, Tyrone
Corbin (1981-85) was named interim head coach for the Sacramento Kings on
Dec. 15 and will coach the team for the rest of the season. Corbin was also head
coach of the Utah Jazz from 2011-14 and played for nine NBA teams during his
pro career from 1985-01.
Three Decades in Rosemont: DePaul is in its 35th season in 2014-15 at Allstate
Arena in Rosemont, Ill. The Blue Demons are 331-164 (.669) all-time in Rosemont. DePaul played its first season at the then-named Rosemont Horizon in
1980. The Blue Demons debuted in Rosemont with a 74-56 win over Gonzaga
and John Stockton on Dec. 1, 1980.
Purnell in Fifth Season: DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell enters his fifth season
in Lincoln Park and his 27th season overall. Known as an architect of rebuilding
programs, Purnell has led three different schools to NCAA Tournament play while
turning around programs at each stop of his career.
The Berlin, Md., native started his head coaching career at Radford and
compiled a 44-42 mark over three seasons before accepting the head coach position at his alma mater, Old Dominion, in 1991. Purnell led the Monarchs to three
postseason appearances (1 NCAA, 2 NIT) and a three-year record of 57-33.
In nine seasons at Dayton, Purnell laid the foundation for the Flyers’ success
and posted 88 wins over his final four years at the Ohio school before moving
on to Clemson for a seven-year stint from 2003-10. While at Clemson, the Tigers
were a regular in the Top 25 polls while making six postseason appearances.
After finishing with a 155-116 record at Dayton, Purnell compiled a 138-88 record
at Clemson. Only North Carolina and Duke posted higher winning percentages
among ACC programs over his final four seasons with the Tigers.
Now in his 27th season, Purnell currently holds a career record of 447-376. In
his fifth season at DePaul, he holds a 53-97 record.
DePaul Adds Three For Next Season and One For This Season: DePaul head
coach Oliver Purnell announced on Nov. 20 the addition of four members to the
basketball program. Oumar Barry, Develle Phillips and Raymond Doby are set the
join the program next season while Brendan McMahon inked his National Letter
of Intent for the 2014-15 campaign.
McMahon is an 11-year-old Chicago native that is the newest member of the
DePaul program. He was diagnosed with Duchene Muscular Dystrophy when he
was six years old. McMahon signed his National Letter of Intent on Nov. 13 with
his newest teammate and coaches. The DePaul men’s basketball and softball
programs have partnered with Team IMPACT whose mission is to improve the
quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the
power of team. For more information, please visit: www.goteamimpact.org.
“We are tremendously excited about announcing the addition of Brendan
McMahon to our program,” said Purnell. “We have every confidence that bringing Brendan on board will strengthen the grit, the determination and the heart of
our team.”
Barry is a native of West Africa that is finishing up his prep career at Bishop
O’Connell High School in Arlington, Va. Doby renewed his NLI commitment by
signing an athletics scholarship tender and joins the program beginning next
season. He originally signed a NLI in May 2014 before enrolling at St. John’s
Northwestern Military Academy where he is playing this season. Phillips joins
Barry as two Washington, D.C.-area signees for next season as both played on
the AAU circuit for DC Premier. The 6-8 relentless rebounder is playing his senior
season for Clinton Christian in Upper Marlboro, Md.

McCORMICK PLACE EVENTS CENTER - FUTURE HOME OF DEPAUL BASKETBALL
aOn May 16, 2013, Chicago Mayor Rahm
Emanuel announced plans for a new 10,000seat multipurpose events center near McCormick Place in Chicago’s South Loop. The facility
will be the future home for DePaul basketball.
aA nine-member panel consisting of
representatives from the Metropolitan Pier
and Exposition Authority (MPEA), the city of
Chicago and DePaul University selected the
internationally renowned architectural firm
Pelli Clarke Pelli to design the McCormick Place
Events Center that will include DePaul men’s
and women’s basketball as primary tenants.
aThe design concept features a sweeping
curved roof above four transparent sides that
will house DePaul men’s and women’s basketball along with a variety of civic, entertainment
and convention events for Chicago and MPEA.
The design endeavors to become a grand
“urban room,” in the great Chicago tradition of
buildings like the Auditorium Theatre and the
Navy Pier Grand Ballroom.
aDePaul is expected to host 25-30 events
annually in the facility including graduation
ceremonies, which will allow each school of
the university to have its ceremony under the
same roof.
aThe 10,000-seat events center will be located near McCormick Place on Cermak Road
between Indiana and South Prairie Avenues.
Not only will the facility serve as a home for
men’s and women’s basketball that is close to
the university’s two primary campuses, it will
create jobs, attract tourism and bring economic development to the planned McCormick
Place entertainment district.
GAME TWENTY-FOUR VS. SETON HALL
aThe location is situated just three
‘L’ stops from DePaul’s loop campus
that caters to half of the DePaul student body. The Lincoln Park campus
and the remaining half of DePaul’s
25,000 students is 10 ‘L’ stops from
the future home of the Blue Demons.
Additionally, the South Loop location
is a seven-mile trip down Chicago’s
Lakeshore Drive that is flanked by the
city’s world-famous skyline and Lake
Michigan. DePaul’s 80,000 alumni in
the Chicagoland area will have easy
access to the events center by major
highways.
