HIGH NOON Jackson Noon Optimist P.O. Box 615 Jackson, MO 63755 Meetings held on Wednesday - 12:00 PM - Delmonico’s February 2015 Volume 5 President’s Message—Buzzes from Emily Promise Yourself... To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. What a wonderful start to 2015! Greeted new members into club, plans underway for the 5k Hope For Kids Run, oratorical and essay contests scheduled and fun fellowship and great programs have been presented. We are a BUSY club doing great work!!! We had business meeting first week followed by terrific program by Doris Dace the next week. Learning to make beautiful cards was lots of fun. Our fellowship meeting was another success. We brought socks, gloves and underwear for children at Jackson R2. We brought it to Meridith (not FOR MERIDITH! ) Several members told a little history about themselves as part of fellowship , very interesting. Hopefully some of the other members will participate later by sharing about themselves. Our last program was by Anita Sievers. She gave us an insight into the history of Optimist International and our local club and the different levels of the organization. It was very informative . To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Anita Branscum will be presiding while I am on vacation . To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. Thanks for a great month and lots of participation from all of you. Pat has done a good job with the Saturday helpers for basketball and she is much appreciated. Please help her when possible!!!! To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. The deadline for that submission is March 6. We will need the student’s name, contact information, name of school they plan to attend and its contact information. We need this information no later than April 1, 2014. April 11, 2015 Jackson City Park Legion Field The committee has been busy. We have chosen the art work for the T-Shirts. The Jackson community has been very generous to provide ads for the tshirts. The necessary paper work with the Cape Road Runners has been turned in. Paper work for the City of Jackson has been turned in and we are hoping for approval from them. Debbie Leoni sat us up with www.active.com so we could get our registration online. Lauri Spain put us on Facebook so we could have our Noon Optimist on it. Thanks Lauri. We are asking for volunteers to help on race day. It will take only 2 to 3 hours and volunteers will be stationed throughout the 5K path to ensure that participants follow the proper route. We are putting together a place where a $20.00 or more donation can be made and the donor will receive a Tshirt. There is lots more to be done and we hope our Optimist members will step up and help. We will not then meet the following day for our regular meeting at Delmonico's. Students will speak on the topic "How My Optimism Will Help Me Press on to Greater Achievements of the Future”. Please come to this evening meeting and support the students who choose to give their speeches. It is always delightful to hear the final fruits of these young people's labors as they have worked hard to prepare themselves for their presentations. There will be a sign-up sheet at our club meeting or you can let Lesa know if you will attend (5795889). We will need to give a head count to the KJC Hall for the meal. Members will be responsible for the cost of their meal. The winners from the club contest will then compete at the Regional Oratorical contest at the Osage Center on March 22 at 2:00 p.m. Lesa Weiss Oratorical Chair It’s that time of year again! The date for our NOW Event is Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 2-4 pm at Anita Sievers’ Home (Thank you so much, Anita!). As of February 1st, we are seven weeks from the date of the party. It will fly by and be here before we know it. My goal for each club member is to turn in at least three new recruits. I don't think that's too much to ask since we really need new members. At the 2013 NOW Event we signed up six members. We didn't have a NOW Event last year so we need to press forward and try to sign up 12 or more ladies. It's a huge task, but I have faith we can do it! 2015 NOW Event Committee: Esther Bohnert Sandy Graham Mary Kiehne Donna Rushing Anita Sievers Patty Turner Connie Werner Emily Collins, President Janell Hinkebein, NOW Chairperson I am excited to work with such a great group of women! As our President Emily Collins says "If it is to be, it is up to me." Let's see what we can do together! Optimistically Yours NOW, Janell Hinkebein, Chairperson Dear Ladies, Please help us recruit new members by filling out the Sponsor Guest List provided in this newsletter (or get one at a Wednesday meeting). We need you to give us three or more prospective ladies names so we can contact and invite them to our NOW Event. These lists are due by Sunday, February 22. You may bring them to any meeting before the deadline; email them to [email protected] or call (or text) with the information at 573-450-6131. This is our single most important event to bring in new members. We need YOU to help make this a success! NOW is the time for you to help the Jackson Noon Optimist Club grow, so we can serve even more youth in our community.
