Most of these selections see no oak in the winemaking process. Some fruits that shine through are lemon, apple, grapefruit, and kiwi. The Godello grapes are sourced from 35 yr old vines and is barrel fermented and aged in (5600L) French Oak for 7 months. Slate soils, 1350 -1650 ft elevation. Great mineral & baking spice on the nose along a concentrated palate. “My goal is to make the wine as true to the varietal as possible” says winemaker Christian Roguenant. Native to Burgundy, Christian has overseen all winemaking for the Niven Family Wine Estates since ‘99. Arneis, meaning the “rascal” can be a very finicky grape to work with. Found primarily in the Roero Hills, which is northwest of Alba. Medium- to full-bodied wines. If you’re interested in tasting a fuller bodied white, other than chardonnay, you may want to try gewürztraminer, roussanne, or viognier. Indigenous to France’s Rhone Valley, viognier offers flavors of dried apricot, peach, & honey. Chalone Vineyards lies in one of the few appellations ( Chalone American Viticultural Area) in the United States that rests on Limestone based Soil. Expressive Terroir make these wines delicate and distinct. Solid wines that have great aging potential. Hanzell grows and produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Sonoma Valley. They have the oldest Chardonnay vines in the New World which go into the “1953 Ambassador’s” from select vintages. With notes of citrus-infused melon fruit, apple, and pear, the wine finishes beautifully with bright acidity and magnificent structure which will age very well Definitely one for the Burgundy collector and lover! Stony Hill Vineyards, located on Spring Mountain, the moderating climatic influences such as northeast-facing slopes and an elevation between 700 and 1200 feet above the valley floor make this mild microclimate an ideal location for growing premium Chardonnay grapes. If you enjoy OldWorld Chardonnay than this is a must try!! Chablis is located in the northernmost part of the Burgundy region in France. In most cases these wines are not aged in oak, only stainless steel tanks to retain the fresh and crisp flavors. Along with its great acidity these wine are very food friendly and a classic pairing with shellfish. The soil in Chablis--Kimmeridgian limestone contains millions of tiny marine fossils embedded in a kind of whitish mortar which may have been once the bottom of the sea...hundreds of million years ago. The wines listed in the Côte-D’-Or, are most famous for Chardonnay that goes through barrel aging, adding a rich complexity to the wine. A perfect choice to pair with Lobster and rich dishes. Eyrie Vineyards 1999 Estate Chardonnay is a great find...Complex bouquet, savory, Burgundian in style and Classic. Highly Recommend! 126. 39. Yarden Chardonnay was produced from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in the Golan Heights. The cool climate, rocky volcanic soil and high altitude are ideal conditions for growing classic wine grape varieties. Pinot noir is often thought of as the most complex red wine grape. It’s flavors can range from bright cherry and strawberry in the Carneros and Russian River regions, to the dark, damp, mushroom laced earthiness of Burgundy. Pinot noir, experts maintain, is the easiest red wine to pair with poultry and fish. It possesses an intrinsic softness that allows more subtle flavors in cuisine to shine through. Clouds Rest is a familyowned, Sonoma County based winery that has produced premium single vineyard estate grown pinot noir since 2002. Littorai, or “the coasts”, was founded in 1993 by Heidi and Ted Lemon. Littorai produces regional and vineyard designated chardonnay and pinot noir wines from the true north coast of California: western Sonoma and western Mendocino Counties. Zepaltas’ main goal is to produce wines that are balanced, pure and reflect the places and people who had a hand in making the wines what they are. Our favorite sources for fruit are the cooler parts of California. Oregon pinot’s possess a silky earthiness that is rivaled mostly by wines from Burgundy, the origin of pinot noir. This may be attributed to the heavier rainfall and cooler climate in the northwestern U.S, as well as the additional sunlight throughout the growing season. Willakenzie Estate is located in the northern Willamette Valley and the estate is named after the very soil on which the vineyards are planted. Terres Basses is the lowest planted vineyard on the estate, more clay in soil, clones 113 and 115. Triple Black Slopes is a very steep-south facingplanted to Dijon clones 114 and 777. Both Limited production! The Red Burgundies listed on this page all come from the Côte d’Or, which is divided into the Côte Nuits (north) and the Côte Beaune (south). The wines and vineyards of Burgundy have a very long history going back to the days when the Romans ruled the region. Medium in body, earth, red fruits, and like most Pinot’s, food friendly! Scott Harvey produces Barbera with an old world style here in California. This wine offers balance, good acidity, is medium plus in body, with ripe red fruits, and has a juiciness that hugs the palate. Modern wine-making techniques in the villages of Barolo and Barbaresco often produce full bodied, fleshy, earthy, red wines made from 100% of the Nebbiolo grape. Challenging in the vineyardthese wines are capable of aging for 10 to 20 plus years. Vietti’s Castiglione Barolo offers aromas of blackberry, mushroom, and coffee notes that follow through onto a full-bodied palate with seamless tannins.. Amarone is made from traditional Italian varietal grapes, mostly corvina, that have been dried in the sun before pressing. This concentrated juice produces a rich red wine with port like texture & flavors of chocolate & spice. The wines of Chianti and Chianti Classico are earthy, medium bodied and fantastic with rustic dishes. Primarily made from the native Sangiovese it can also be blended with other indigenous grapes from the region and in some cases with Merlot. Syrah in Australia... referred to as “Shiraz”, and finds itself very much at home with more intense dark berry flavors such as blackberry and blueberry! Medium to full body, powerful wines that still have balance. Cluster M45 is grown, made and bottled in Heathcote- Victoria, by the partnership of Michel & Corinne Chapoutier and Ron & Elva Laughton. Better yet, they are approachable right out of the gate! d’Arenberg Winery dates back to 1912 and produces world class wine in the McLaren Vale region in South Australia. Chester Osborn, chief and fourth generation family member, is continuing the family’s wine making tradition that spans over two centuries. Chester and his wine making team utilise the original 1920s cellars and the traditional wine making processes to create the wines that proudly wear the red stripe label. Worth a try and a visit!! Bordeaux wines can be mesmerizing. Typically showing less fruit and more earth than California wines of the same varietals, Bordeaux are often more complex. Plus, average Bordeaux wines usually age better than California wines of equal quality.
