Welcome
About the Conference
Asthma is a manageable condition. With
effective treatment, most people with asthma
will enjoy a normal and healthy life. However,
asthma continues to have a significant impact
on the lives of people with asthma and their
carers.
Asthma Australia together with your local
Asthma Foundation is pleased to present the
2014 World Asthma Day Symposium and we
encourage health professionals involved in all
aspects of asthma care to attend. With a wide
and varied program, incorporating research and
clinical updates through to practical information
on device technique, you will find something to
meet your own professional needs.
Current research highlights that asthma selfmanagement and control is sub optimal for
many people in the community. Evidence shows
that many people with asthma experience daily
symptoms, difficulty with medication adherence
and a sense of disempowerment relating to
their condition. In addition, there is often a
lack of insight into how asthma can impact on
day to day activities at work and home.

Speaker 1:
Current Management of Asthma in Young Children
Much more can be done to help people with
asthma take control of their condition. There are
many very effective strategies and interventions
that can be adopted within the health system.
These combined with a collaborative and
coordinated effort between patients, carers,
health professionals and community groups
will ensure positive health outcomes for people
with asthma. Therefore, it is critical that health
professionals and key decision makers embrace
asthma as a health priority area in Australia in
2014 and beyond.
