Essential Energy Course Information for 2015 Work Near Overhead Powerlines (WNP) Essential Energy as a Training Organisation is pleased to be able to offer the Work Near Overhead Powerlines (WNP) training course. The course is available in either Initial Training or Refresher Course, which aligns to the Work Near Overhead Powerlines - WorkCover Code of Practice 2006*. Why do we need this course and accreditation? Overhead powerline contact is one of the largest single causes of fatalities associated with mobile plant and equipment. W orkCover NSW’s Code of Practice 2006 – Work Near Overhead Powerlines includes references to legislative obligations of persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), officers and workers who are required to work in close proximity to overhead powerlines. What will the course do for you or your employees? Once successfully completed, workers will be able to work to reduced clearances in accordance with the WNP Code. Course content The course includes: > Basic electricity > The power system > Electric shock – effects and prevention > How to determine voltage levels of electrical apparatus > Application of safe approach distances > Rescue and escape in an electrical situation > Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation > WorkCover requirements > Safe working practices. Competency assessments are completed as part of the course and are based on practical/oral and written assessments. Refresher Courses As per the WNP Code, refresher training is required for the accreditation to remain current.
