Back Cover Welcome to the 2014 Summer Programme, This year see a slight restructuring of our calendar to allow for the development of the Clifton College drama productions, which this year include David Copperfield and an outside production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. your coffee cravings before settling down to enjoy the shows. As well as these great College productions we also have some of the best of Bristol’s dramatic societies performing a wide selection of musicals – from old favourites such as ‘The Sound of Music’ and ‘The Gondoliers’ to less well known (but still Tony award winning) shows such as ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ (Don’t worry the performance is a lot more upbeat than the title would suggest). This year also sees the return of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School’s West Country Tour which will be gracing us with a performance of ‘Sauce for the Goose’ before heading off into deepest darkest Cornwall. As well as a theatrical feast the Redgrave now has a brand new coffee machine capable of producing coffee shop quality cappuccinos, lattes and espressos so why not turn up to the performances a little early this year and satisfy 2www.redgravetheatre.com www.cliftoncollegeuk.com/ccsl/redgrave David Fells,Theatre Manager Theatre STAFF: Karen Pickles (Director) David Fells (Theatre Manager) Keifer Spencer (Theatre Technician) 0117 315 7411 0117 315 7602 0117 315 7602 To be included on our twice-a-year mailing list, please supply your details to: [email protected] Alternatively you can keep up to date with us at www.facebook.com/redgravetheatre or www.twitter.com/redgraveT CALENDAR At A Glance APRIL Tuesday 1 – Saturday 5 The Gondoliers Tuesday 8 – Saturday 12 Hair Sunday 13 Kabaret Paranienormalni Tuesday 22 – Saturday 26 The Sound of Music Tuesday 29 – Wednesday 30Annie Get Your Gun MAY Thursday 1 – Saturday 3Annie Get Your Gun Wednesday 7 – Saturday 10Sauce For the Goose Wednesday 21 – Friday 23 David Copperfield Wednesday 28 – Saturday 31 West Side Story JUNE Tuesday 3 – Saturday 7 The Drowsy Chaperone Wednesday 25 – Friday 27 The Pre Play Saturday 28 Monday 30A Midsummer Night’s Dream Please note: Some events may not be listed in this programme, please see our website for details of all shows. A Brief History of the Redgrave Theatre Built in 1966, the Redgrave was originally known simply as the ‘Clifton College Theatre’. The design was based on the Mermaid Theatre in London and it was the first purpose built school theatre in the country. The theatre was officially opened by the actor Sir Michael Redgrave, an old boy of the College. After his death in 1985 the theatre was renamed ‘The Redgrave Theatre’ in his honour. Originally the theatre was only used for College events, but in the 1970s the decision was made for the theatre to be hired out to local drama groups during the holidays, since then the popularity of the Redgrave has continued to grow and it is now one of the most successful theatres in Bristol. www.cliftoncollegeuk.com/ccsl/redgrave 11 The Redgrave Theatre does not have a permanent Box Office so please book your tickets directly with the visiting companies on the phone numbers below.
