Simply Sayin’ (*this is a favourite child life teaching app!*)
The medical jargon health care professionals use can be overwhelming to children,
because they process information differently than adults. The Simply Sayin’ app uses
pictures, sounds and child friendly glossary of terms to facilitate clear conversations
between the healthcare provider, child and family. Parents can also use this
information to promote positive health care experiences for their children. This app
has real sounds of an MRI and the ability to have the patient or HCP draw on
anatomy pictures to assist in teaching/understanding.
Patient Communicator by SCCM (for non verbal/complex patients)
The ICU patient communicator by SCCM is designed to improve communication
between patients and caregivers. This app allows patients who are conscious, but
unable to communicate verbally, an opportunity to express concerns or issues related
to pain management, comfort levels, and overall well-being. This app would be
appropriate for school age, adolescents and adults.
Riley Child Life Tour
The Riley Child Life Program at IU Health seeks to minimize the stress and anxiety
children often experience in a hospital setting. Riley Child Life Tour is designed to
help children learn about an upcoming medical procedure and correct
misconceptions they may have by using interactive maps, panoramas, photos, videos
and sounds. Under the guidance of a child life specialist or health care professional,
children can use Riley Child Life Tour to explore the settings, people and equipment
they encounter during hospitalization.
Google Translate
Break through language barriers with Google Translate. Translate 80 languages,
