Funding
The Bugenyuzi and Gitega Rural Integrated Nutrition project is implementing community-based
interventions including FARN (PD/Hearth), GMP, and IYCF. The mHealth project is part of this
nutrition project, but is operating in only one of the two ADPs. The mHealth component is
specifically supporting an integrated monitoring of the ongoing PD/Hearth and the GMP
programs in Bugenyuzi ADP.
The implementation of the mHealth component started in May 2014 with 12 pilot sites and will
be extended shortly to eight additional sites within the same ADP. The project is piloting the
use of the GMP and FARN (PD/Hearth) mobile phone application to collect all anthropometry,
immunization, supplementation, and deworming records, as well as all FARN indicators. All data
are accessible online and reports are generated into MS Excel for further analysis of children’s
growth and to assess program quality. The project duration is two years, with a possibility for
WVB to expand the mHealth component to additional sites in other ADPs.
