Walk between Newarke Point and the John Whitehead Building, on the
pathway and through to The Newarke. Turn left, walk over the bridge and
bear right. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre is at the
bottom of the road on the right
Student Gateway, Gateway House
The Student Gateway is the central place for students to go to for support and help
with a variety of enquires including:

When DMU launched the DMU Square Mile Project in 2012, we set out to demonstrate
how the skills and expertise of our staff and students could help support a community.
Newarke Point is a privately managed hall accommodating 648 DMU students in flats made
up of five classic or premium en suite bedrooms, as well as classic or premium studios.
There are on-site laundry facilities, a common room, bike storage plus internet access, and
contents insurance and utility bills are all included in the price.

The main role of DSU is to represent your views and campaign for positive change,
ensuring the years students spend at DMU are the best of their lives. They provide
opportunities for involvement in sport, media, societies and volunteering and offer
education and welfare advice when needed.

Trinity House
Trinty House is the oldest building on campus, a grade 2 listed building and is home to the
offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellors, and the Advancement Office.

Gateway House, Faculty of Technology

The Faculty of Technology is at the forefront of important research in cyber
security, computer ethics, robotics and virtual reality.
Students studying within Gateway House have access to state-of-the-art game
development studios, virtual reality facilities and forensic and security laboratories,
alongside access to Mac, PC and Linux based machines.
The purpose-built home for health and life sciences, Edith Murphy House is one of the two
buildings that are home to the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. This landmark building
has been completely refurbished and renamed. It opened for teaching in the summer of 2011.
Facilities include lecture theatres, classrooms and social study areas.

Wood Building up Mill Lane. On your left is Kimberlin Library
Continue though the Fletcher Quad and turn left walking underneath the

Retail Lab, Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities
The Kimberlin Library, with 1,500 study places and 400 computer workstations is at
the heart of the student learning experience, both as a physical resource and virtual
online service that is accessible anywhere on the web.

The library is open 24 hours a day from Sunday to Friday and 9am–8pm on Saturdays
during term-time. This library gives students access to more than half a million
publications and a wide range of DVDs as well as e-resources and thousands of
electronic journals.
There are also special facilities and services for part-time and postgraduate students,
users with disabilities and distance learners. We have dedicated subject librarians for
each area of study.
Retail Lab is a state-of-the-art research and development facility, which supports the retail
sector through a range of cutting edge technology practices and research driven initiatives.
From optimising shop layout and design to using eye-tracking technology to plan window
displays, DMU’s Retail Lab is at the forefront of revolutionising our shopping experience.
Still in Magazine Square, at the front of the square is Magazine Gateway,
the entrance to our campus from the city. On your right is the Hugh
Aston Building

The Hugh Aston Building is home to our business and law disciplines. This £35 million
facility is one of the most exciting projects ever undertaken by the university. Combining
modern study suites, IT labs, a bookshop, postgraduate study suite and a café, law students
also benefit from dedicated law facilities including a mock courtroom, a client interviewing
area and a new integrated Law Library, one of only a few in the UK.

Fletcher Building, Faculty of Art, Design
and Humanities
The Fletcher Building is home to art and design based courses and features a number of
workshops that students use during their studies. This building is also home to the Contour
Fashion course. DMU is one of the only universities in the world to teach this course, which
specialises in lingerie, underwear, swimwear and performance sportswear.

As part of plans recently unveiled, the Fletcher Building and surrounding area leading up to
the banks of the River Soar will be transformed to create an exciting new home to the
creative disciplines at DMU.
Queens Building, Faculty of Technology
The building houses TV, video and audio recording facilities and our student radio
station, Demon FM, broadcasts from here.
Cross the pedestrian crossing and enter the Fletcher Building through the
main entrance doors, cross straight through the lobby and into Fletcher Quad

De Montfort Surgery
The Student Health Centre at De Montfort Surgery provides healthcare for students at DMU
and their families. The centre also runs a range of specialist clinics.
The surgery is open Monday to Friday 8.30am–5pm with a late night surgery on
selected weekdays.
Clephan Building, Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities
The Clephan Building, home to humanities subjects, houses generous teaching
accommodation equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment. Our dedicated computer
centre includes a state-of-the-art media lab with Apple Mac Pro computers, cinema screens
and all the latest creative software applications with full technical support.

Hawthorn Building, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

The Hawthorn Building is where it all began and was first conceived in 1897, it is the second
building that is home to the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Featured in this building are
a mock pharmacy, up to date laboratory spaces, newly created clinical skills areas and home
environment facilities.
The PACE Building (Performing Arts Centre of
Excellence), Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities
DMU’s PACE Building is home to the UK’s first Centre for Excellence in Performance Arts and
provides a superb range of studios and rehearsal spaces for dance, drama and music
technology teaching.
It has two spacious dance studios with Harlequin sprung flooring, mirrored walls, and large
windows to let in natural light. There are also two more large performance spaces with sprung
timber flooring and full lighting rigs; one of which has floor-to-ceiling windows with black-out
facilities and four break-out rehearsal rooms; and the other has audience seating for up to 120
people, two music recording studio spaces which can be used as technical control rooms.
The PACE building also has a social space where students can meet and relax.
Our Accommodation Office is part of the Estates and Commercial Services department,
based in the Estates Development Building.
Our friendly and knowledgeable team is here to help all students to find suitable
accommodation and to offer any advice on choosing and applying for accommodation
in halls of residence, paying your accommodation bills, support that is available whilst living
in halls, finding accommodation for your second year and much more.

experiment, the Queens Building makes use of state-of-the-art techniques, which has
turned it into a centre for sustainable excellence. DMU has partnered with companies
to develop and implement the latest sustainable technologies in a living example of
what green creativity and research can do.

The Campus Centre is the social hub of the campus. It houses a large food court, shops
and the Graduate Bar on the ground floor, the Students’ Union (DSU) on the first floor, and
dance studios, the chaplaincy and exhibition space.
Walk through the car park for Clephan Building using the pedestrian

The Greenhouse
The Greenhouse provides 200 seats for group and individual study, with the most
up-to-date IT facilities. The space is light and airy and truly green, with LED lighting that
reacts to changes in natural daylight to save energy.
