Meeting Minutes
18 October 2014

Charlie Montgomery called the meeting to order with due form and ceremony at 8:30 AM in the American
Legion Post 16, Lynchburg, VA. All VSC officers were present.
Charlie recessed the meeting to hold a town hall meeting on Agent Orange.
Charlie reconvened the VSC meeting at 1:00 PM. He asked Sam Thompson to come up to the podium. Sam
thanked all for their thoughts and prayers after the loss of Brother Bootie Smith on 18 May 2014. Bootie's
sisters came up and thanked all for their thoughts and prayers. He assigned Tim Vail as the parliamentarian.

The agenda was accepted without objection. David Stokes, President of VVA #196, welcomed everyone to the
meeting. Charlie Montgomery presented him with the VSC Veteran of the Year Award. A motion was made,
seconded and passed to suspend with the reading of the VSC May 2014 meeting minutes.
Committee Reports
Finance: Terry Haskins reported that he had received one request for a grant. VVA #78 requested $500 to
purchase a POW MIA flags. The chapter has over $29,000 in financial assets. The VSC Finance Committee
declined to approve this request. Edith Dresch went over the current VSC financial status with the delegates for
the 2nd Qtr, FY 2014. The VSC expenditures are on track with the budget year. Charlie reiterated that the
chapter need to get their financial and elections reports in on time next year as 2015 is a VVA National
Convention year. The 2015 VVA National Convention will be held in Springfield, IL.
Unfinished Business
Charlie Montgomery noted that he and VVA #227 continue to work the issue of identifying and ensuring that
only VVA members can obtain a VVA license plate in Virginia.
Charlie reported on the recent VVA Education and Leadership Conference. David Stokes noted that he received
some great information at the conference.
Charlie reported on the 2015 Household Goods Donation Program. He plans on ending out the contracts to the
affected chapters for their signatures prior to the March 2015 VSC meeting. The chapters will sign the three
copies and return them to Charlie.
Charlie reported on the recent VVA National Board meeting. The board focused on veterans health issues and
Agent Orange issues.
New Business
Charlie Montgomery noted the VSC 2015 meeting schedule. VVA #806 will host the March 2015 meeting 20–
22 March in South Hill, VA. The June 26-28 VSC meeting will be hosted by VVA #1061 in Harrisonburg, VA.
The October 23-25 meeting will be hosted by VVA #957 in Williamsburg, VA.
Charlie noted the VVA Region 3 Conference March 26-29, 2015 in Knoxville, TN.
Gordon Tassi suggested that the VSC acquire an Automatic Defibrillator for emergency use at meetings. Jim
Blount will look into this suggestion.
Len Ignatowski requested that the VSC support a proposal to take to the Joint Leadership Council (JLC)
regarding Healthcare for Uninsured Veterans and Their Families. The delegates will support this proposal.
Sam Thompson requested that the VSC establish an In-Memory plaque to recognize those VSC members who
have passed away over the years. Roger Stevens will look into this plaque.
Nancy Switzer presented David Stokes with plaque thanking him for his support of the Agent Orange Town Hall
program. She presented the VSC with a similar plaque.
Announcements
The next VSC meeting will be held in South Hill, VA 20-22 March in South Hill, VA.
Charlie adjourned the meeting at 2:40 PM.
