Disassembly of CH Products Pro Pedals DO NOT start by removing the screws from the bottom of the base. You generally need to start from the top and work down. You will need: - a small Phillips screwdriver, - a small flat bladed screw driver and/or - needle nose pliers. 1) Remove the 6 screws holding the pedal treads on each of the pedal units and remove the treads. Left and right are both identical so you need not worry about mixing them up. Interior of Pedal unit with pedal tread removed 2) Loosen the wires which are dressed through a notch assembly on the pedal base as shown. Pull the potentiometers upwards to remove them. Note and record the colors and positions of the wires on the pots. The pots are installed with the terminals towards the toe of the pedal. 3) Remove the wires from the pots. A small flat blade screwdriver can pry 1 them loose from the side, or a needle nose pliers can be used to pull them off. Be gentle, as you don't want to break the pot. 4) Disconnect the tension spring from the pedal body. 5) Remove the innermost set of screws and brackets from each pedal shaft assembly (these hold the pedal assembly on the post coming out of the base unit). – There is no need to touch the outer sets of screws on the pedal shaft assembly. Screws & bracket to be removed; spring disconnected 6) After removing the innermost screws and brackets, lift the pedal assemblies upwards, guiding the wires to avoid snagging them. Note how the wires were routed through the pedal opening. You will then be left with the base unit with the two pedal attachment towers. 2 Base unit with Pedals removed 7) Remove the 12 screws from around the outside of the bottom of the base assembly and the 3 screws in the central portion of the base. (Note that these are longer screws than those used in the pedal assemblies.) 8) Lift the top cover off of the unit, exposing the guts of the mechanism and the wiring. Use some care as springs can now pop off, linkages can disconnect, etc. Note that the wires are routed through little guides on the yaw linkage plate, similar to guides used in the pedal housings. If you move the rudder carriages slightly, you can see how the linkages work to rotate the yaw potentiometer. 3 Base Unit with Cover removed Rudder carriage and yaw plate (post will fit in slot in plate) 9) For reassembly reverse the above. Take care that all of the links are 4 connected and that the wires are free before starting reassembly. The yaw mechanism needs to engage the shafts from the pedal towers and the large yaw assembly needs to engage the arm to the potentiometer. 10) Start reassembly with the three central screws on the base unit and wait for the rest until you’ve verified proper operation. 11) In reassembly of the pedal and potentiometers, note the position of the potentiometer “gear” on the white rack assembly. The first photo showed the rudder pedal in full “up” position with potentiometer gears and rack gears engaged properly. 12) Plug the USB cord into your computer after the pots have been reinstalled to check their operation and the yaw function in whatever simulator you are using. If everything checks out, finish installing screws and pedal treads. 5
