Area Information
Since 2000, the population of Fuquay-Varina has more than doubled in size, growing from 8,701 in July,
2001 to 18,644 in July, 2012. Benefiting from nearby growth “engines”, forward thinking leadership, and
ample county land in which to expand its corporate boundaries, Fuquay-Varina has what it takes to grow.
Like most Wake County municipalities, Fuquay-Varina
owes much of its unprecedented growth to its proximity
to the Research Triangle Park. The RTP is the world’s
largest planned research and development park. The
Park comprises 7,000 acres, 22.5 million square feet of
developed work space, 170 corporate tenants, and is the
work place of 42,000 employees.
Fuquay-Varina is located 15 miles south of Raleigh, North
Carolina’s capital and one of the fastest growing cities in America. As Raleigh’s population has grown
in recent years, Fuquay has benefited from those who have sought its small-town life style with big city
amenities such as restaurants, arts, and sports entertainment, to name a few.
Wake Technical Community College is located approximately six miles
north of Fuquay-Varina on Highway 401. The College is a two-year
accredited institution of higher education serving over 66,000 students
on five campuses, two training centers, and online education. Wake
Tech offers 180 associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates to prepare
students for employment or university transfer. Of great importance
to area business and industry, Wake Tech offers non-credit workforce
training and business support. Hailed as one of the best places to live
in the Research Triangle Area, Fuquay-Varina is the home of many of the
school’s students, staff, and faculty.
Fuquay-Varina’s leadership is another of the town’s many strengths. Its
leadership has demonstrated that it not only wants to grow but knows
what it takes to grow, putting in place the essential infrastructure needed
to facilitate growth. The Town currently has water capacity of 4.25 million
gallons per day and it has an unused water capacity of 2.0 million gallons
per day. Its wastewater capacity is 3.6 million gpd and has unused capacity of 2.0 million gpd. FuquayVarina’s proactive preparation has made it ready for the inevitable.
Fuquay-Varina’s future growth will not be stunted or hindered by the natural barriers or nearby municipalities.
Fuquay-Varina is surrounded by county land that ripe for annexation. The Town has already extended its
noncontiguous borders through satellite annexation along the northbound corridor up Highway 401 towards
Raleigh and south towards Lillington and fast growing Fayetteville. It has also extended it limits along the
east/west axis that is Highway 42.
Located near the growth generators of the Research Triangle Park, the City of Raleigh, and Wake Technical
Community College, blessed with proactive, forward thinking leadership, and plenty of room in which to
spread its corporate boundaries make Fuquay-Varina a sure bet to be one of North Carolina’s fastest
growing towns in the decades to come.
