LEADERSHIP TEAM: The rest of the Leadership Team came from following Congregational Churches; Padstow Chinese (Vanessa Lin and Joyce Lam) Bexley (Connie Leung) Revesby (Rebecca Gray) Miranda (Bronwyn Harvey, Robyn Harvey, Ben Smit-Colbran, James Follent, Emily Turner and Rhys Ewing) CAMPERS: 32 campers were registered but one camper had to withdraw before the camp as she was unwell. These children came from 13 churches of which four were FCC churches. We are thankful that God blessed us with good weather during the camp. We thank God that the campers were all healthy throughout the camp except for minor falls that needed minimal intervention. Brief summary of the camp as follow; MONDAY: The campers arrived by train. Some of the activities included taking group photos, a bushwalk, teaching time and an evening games night. TUESDAY: We had teaching time and small group studies during the morning, ‘messy games’ in the afternoon and a walk to Horseshoe Falls to see the glow worms in the evening. Page 2 FCC JUNIOR CAMP WEDNESDAY: We left early for our excursion to Featherdale Wildlife Park. The campers had an education session and everyone was able to touch the animals shown by the educator. We arrived back at camp at 3.00 pm and had our teaching time and small group studies. The evening consisted of dressing-up as animals and watching a movie “George of the Jungle.” THURSDAY: We had our teaching time and small group studies in the morning and ctaft time in the afternoon. The campers made wooden monkey boards and zebras and lions were made with plastic bottles. The evening consisted of campfire meeting and we thank God that 11 campers made a commitment to follow Jesus. FRIDAY: The final day of Junior Camp is always a sad day with lots of goodbyes, but we had our teaching time and small group studies in the morning, shared our final meal together then headed to Hazelbrook station for the trip home. We are very grateful for Tony King (Miranda) for transporting camper’s luggage to and from the camp. We are also grateful for Ben and Carolyn May (Camp Managers) for accommodating us, graciously facilitating our delicious meal times during the week and looking after all our needs. On behalf of the Co-Directors, we thank Miranda and Padstow Chinese Congregational Churches for allowing us to use their church buses. We would also like to make a special mention of Miss Katherine Murray. She did a wonderful job as a first time Co-Director. Her passion and enthusiasm for Junior Camp is amazing and the Junior Camp ministry is certainly in good hands with her as a CoDirector. [I remember Katherine as an enthusiastic young camper, a devoted Junior Leader and Leader during my time at Junior Camp and it is wonderful to hear of her continuing and steadfast commitment to this FCC ministry. Editor] Page 3 FCC CHURCHES IN ACTION KURRI KURRI ADVENTURE TIME 2014 “Wastewatchers” Our “Adventure Time” program was recently held during the first week of the July School Holidays. We had 22 willing leaders and assistants, their involvement ranged from front line leadership and participation through to behind the scenes organisation, and we also had many who prayerfully upheld this week of Gospel outreach. We ministered to 40 children over the week, as well as some parents, and it was a blessing to us all. Our Bible teacher, Keith Wilson, held the children’s attention with picture stories and as a result the children heard about Creation and Jesus’ earthly ministry. Please keep praying for the Word of God to impact these children’s lives for a long time to come as they sing the songs and recount the memory verses and for some to come along to the Sunday School groups of “Oasis” and “Livewires”. That His name may be glorified. Brian Sutherland Adventure Time Co-ordinator Page 4 FCC CHURCHES IN ACTION During the second week of the school holidays, MIRANDA CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH conducted their annual ‘Kids Holiday Club.’ This year’s program had a ‘Super Hero’ theme. The aim of the week was to show the children that Jesus is MORE THAN a Super Hero. The program was presented by Lyall Morris, who is a marvellous puppeteer from OAC, Victoria. During these sessions he was ably assisted by several of the young MCC leaders. Each day the children learned Bible verses through various competitive activities and computer games. Our mornings always commenced with a prayer time when the leaders would give thanks to the Lord for the privilege of serving within this ministry and for its outreach. It was quite obvious others were praying behind the scene because everything went as planned. The attendance was between 50 - 60 children each day! We can only give praise to Him! It was great to see that many of the children came for the whole week, so that they got the whole story!!! The crafts for the week were: Day 1: Creation garden. Day 2: Maze, showing how King Josiah found the Law of God when he cleaned the temple. Day 3: Jesus and Peter walking on water. Day 4: Jesus is the only superhero with miracle cards. Day 5: Key ring with "Courage and ‘WWJD’". There were 40 leaders and helpers who attended each day and performed many and varied tasks, even to making sure the toilets were cleaned for the following day. Singing was a highlight of the day and children loved the songs and were actively involved with lots of actions. Some of the songs sung were - ‘I Am a C H R I S T I A N,’ ‘Jesus Love is very Wonderful,’ ‘Love Your God’ and many others our theme song was ‘Jesus You're My Superhero.’ Each day there was a special catering crew on board who prepared morning teas and lunches. Food was placed on tables and after children dutifully lined up they went in a very orderly fashion to choose from a variety of foodstuffs. There were many people who donated cakes, sausage rolls, and lots of tasty morsels or donated money to buy things. All those who helped were really kind to donate their time and effort to look after the children and adults too. Page 5 FCC CHURCHES IN ACTION The family night on Friday was again a great success. Many parents came to find out what Kids Holiday Club is all about. We started with some games, followed by singing, a PowerPoint presentation of the week's activities and a final puppet story from Lyall and his MCC team. Our Pastor, Tony Prestoe addressed the parents and challenged them to decide about their most important choice in life. Supper was served and the children collected their show bags, which included Video Ezy popcorn and vouchers. Video Ezy has been a sponsor of the Kids Holiday Club for many years. This year we also included a DVD with an episode of "Bugtime Adventures" in the bag (all the DVDs related to a Bible story). To God be all the glory. Nico and Frederika Olthof MCC Kids Holiday Club Co-ordinators BILLET Rev. Paul Andrianatos, pastor from Living Bible Fellowship at Goondiwindi in Queensland will be attending ‘Oxygen’ 4 - 7 August. He would appreciate the opportunity to be billeted for his stay (4 - 7 August). Please contact the FCC Office (9588 5128) if you are able to offer Paul accommodation for his Sydney visit. Thank you. THANKS Thank you to all who have prayed and supported Joan Buttle. Joan has now been moved to a permanent residency at the Salvation Army Weeroona Village, Bass Hill. NEW FCC WEBSITE - NOW LIVE Thanks to the hard work and many hours of his own time, Mr. Wayne Johnson, formerly of Miranda Congregational Church, now living in Canberra, has designed a new FCC website. His expertise and generosity is very much appreciated by the Fellowship. Please check it out at: www.fcc-cong.org REV. DR. ALAN HARLEY Although Rev. Dr. Alan Harley’s ministry has taken him down different paths over past years, he writes, “the FCC is still on my heart, and if opportunity arises, it would be my pleasure to be of some small service to the Fellowship. In particular, I am still active in preaching, and would be pleased to assist any of my brother preachers who are in need of a supply during holidays, etc.” If your church would like to ask Alan to preach, please refer to the 2014 FCC Yearbook (see page 65), for his contact details . SYMPATHY The Fellowship extends its sincere sympathy to the family of Mr. Ted Burton, Miranda Congregational Church, who passed away on 19 July at the age of 89. Ted and his wife, June lived in the Sutherland Shire for most of their lives before moving to the South Coast a few years ago. Ted had many roles at Miranda, including deacon, Sunday School Superintendant and good and true friend to everyone. His life was one of service to his Lord. They want you to know your love gifts make a difference. Please send your sponsorship support or donations to the FCC Office or to the FCC Bank Account (BSB No: 062 253 Account Number: 0090 1607), clearly marked either ‘Philippines Sponsorship’ or ’Philippines Donation.’ DEVELOP THE DOLLAR HABIT Develop the Dollar Habit’ was introduced as a simple means of raising funds to support the ministries of the Fellowship of Congregational Churches, with every dollar being used to support the work of Home Mission (supporting churches and pastors), World Mission (supporting our missionaries) and Ministry and Leadership Training (training pastors and leaders). The FCC does not have membership fees for churches or its members. The concept is that ideally, each FCC member and adherent would contribute just $1 per week to the work of the FCC. Unfortunately, we have not managed to achieve this yet. Specially marked envelopes are available for your use. Please ask for these at your church. Thank you to those churches who have recently contributed to the Dollar Habit. You contribution is making a difference.
