TRADITION
Hestra’s first glove was designed in 1936 in Hestra, Sweden by Martin Magnusson. They were created for
lumberjacks who needed warm, durable gloves for tough winter conditions. When skiers began to visit Hestra,
Magnusson realized they could also benefit from sturdy, warm leather gloves and in the winter of 1941, Hestra’s
first ski glove was created.
78 years later, Hestra still makes durable, warm leather ski gloves and the Magnusson family still operates the
company in Hestra, Sweden. Today Hestra makes gloves for skiers, snowboarders, cross country skiers, juniors,
racers, mountaineers, and classic gloves for everyday use. Hestra’s commitment to quality and tradition is what
sets it apart from the rest.

Research &
Development
At Hestra finding the right balance between durability, warmth,
moisture-resistance and flexibility is extremely important. To
do this, we work with pro athletes and outdoor enthusiasts
who place the highest demands on their equipment.
In 2012 Hestra athlete, Jeremy McGhee completed his climb
and descent of Bloody Couloir in California, making him the
first paraplegic to climb and ski a major backcountry route
on his own power. “Every year my friends climb and ski that
route and I felt left behind. I wanted to be adventuring in the
backcountry with them and became obsessed with finding
a way. Equipment was crucial on this trip as we were in a
remote area and exposure could prove deadly.”
Jeremy chose Hestra gloves for the performance they
provided on his toughest adventure yet; Hestra chooses
Jeremy to put our gloves to the test in the toughest
conditions and we’re proud to be a part of his adventures.

The fourth generation of Magnusson’s have now joined their family company. Current owners,
Svante and Claes both have two sons. They are managing their great-grandfather’s inheritance in
different ways, an inheritance that involves workmanship, tradition, and quality. They also have an
eye on the future to continually progress the company and its designs forward.

For the 2013-14 season Hestra gloves won Freeskier Editor’s
